But it's too early you say? True, it is too early to discuss sports.
So let's discuss the farce that is the commonwealth games.
So far this week:
A major sponsor has threatened to pull out
The merchandise supplier has pulled out.
The Indian PM has set up a panel to investigate the games
42 deaths on the building site reported.
Unfinished venues, that are now being rushed to finish - working the workers to death.
2 months to go. This week the CGF will visit Delhi and reportedly if needed they may even transfer the games elsewhere - or even abandon them.
Let's award the games to India - what an unwise idea.

it's been a bit of a joke.
anyone see the state of athletics track tonight? the track stuff starts tomorrow and it's not even finished yet!
i just don't understand why they keep giving major sporting events to third world countries. it doesn't help them economically at all because they spend so much to put the event on. |

Because they normally deliver, Beijing and South Africa recently, also plenty of football world cups in South America, Mexico has hosted loads of things. The most disappointing Olympics in recent times has been Atlanta and the US is arguably the most developed country in the world.
Besides, the commonwealth games is meant to be about allowing the former members of the British Empire to shine, and that is not best served by only allowing the UK, Australia or Canada to host it.

china isn't a third world country and SA was touch and go until FIFA stepped in.
Atlanta was dissapointing how? certainly not by the quality of it's stadiums and organisation.
have you watched any of the games? there were about 5 people in the stadium for the hockey. whats the point in holding it in a country were the people can't afford to eat let alone spend a day at the games.
i agree that developing countries should be given the games, IF they can handle it. India clearly can't as the last 2 weeks have shown. |

Back to the original point, India could hold a large sports event, if they decided to actually work on it.
India didn't, they assumed they could do it at the last minute, this has been proven wrong, what it has however achieved is a perfect case study on how not to prepare for a major international sporting event.

Anyway, the cycling.
The Keirin final was one of the best Keirins Ive ever seen - Azizulhasni Awang is quite awesome at his best. Just a shame that the race commisaires ruined the event, with decisions in both the semi finals and the final.

yes it is a comparison. with a country that is so different that a comparison is impossible. therefore it is pointless.
angola is rich because of it's natural resources, nothing else.
china is rich because of it's massive economy which is one of the most productive and powerful in the world.
now compare the 2 and try to say that because one is a third world country, the other must be as well. |
