Hi all I thought I'd share my experiences with you incase it can help someone.
Here's my setup q6600 oc'd to 3Ghz
4GB RAM
ATI HD3870 512Mb
I had a lot of problems with PCM10 with the pcmdaily expansion (thank you for that) crashing in the 3D stages especially towards the end of a stage. Even when I set the graphics to a minimum. I realised the problem was overheating so I decided to under-clock the GPU. took a while to get the settings right but the end Result : I can play the game perfectly on max settings (except for antialiasing).
Tools used ATI Tray Tools. Available at https://downloads.guru3d.com/ATI-Tray-...d-733.html
Best settings for me were GPU at 324Mhz and memory at 900Mhz. SMOOTH AS SILK NOW>
Thats a 50 % underclock necessary to run PCM10. Pretty inefficient coding from Cyanide IMHO. But I don't care PCM10 is so good I can almost taste the black bananas and sweaty sandwiches of my youth.
Hope this helps someone. |

Great news - I think this is what I need to get my PCM2010 to run. Is it possible that you could post a little more detailed guide. Just for us stupids out here |

Before anybody underclocks his GPU, first check if the GPU is really overheating. Use that ATI tool to check.
If you have a heat problem you can go two ways. Cool it down or clock it down. Easier might be to give additional air to your card by opening the box of the computer. If that is not enough, put a vent infront of the open box.
If you computer is old you might even use a vacuum cleaner to suck off all the dust. (Warning: Always hold tight the vents of the computer before approaching with the vac hose.)
If this resolves the problem, one might either underclock or just leave the box open until winter. |

Sorry Maybe I wasn't clear enough.
Step 1. You download and install ATI Tray Tools (link above).
Step 1a. Right click the ATT icon and choose hardware>Tools and Options>OnScreen display. Here you confiure a realtime OSD that can display all your stats. Eg. GPU speed, temp and frame rate.
Step 1b. Play PCM and see how far you get. Take note of the temp.
Step 2. Right click the ATT icon and choose hardware>overclocking settings.
Step 3. Take note of your default speeds.
Step 4. Move the sliders governing GPU speed and memory speed to the desired speed. Start at low setting (eg50% of default).
Step 5. Click on the tab marked Fan control. Choose manual speed and move the slider to 100% *IMPORTANT STEP
Step 6. Apply and play the game. If it runs smoothly and cooly repeat step 5 at a 10% higher speed.
Step7. When you have found the settings that work for you, save your GPU,Memory and Clock speeds in a profile that you can load before you play PCM.
If anyones got questions post them here. |

Please stay ON TOPIC, nobody cares about your system or that you have no problems. If you want to help out, then tell us your GPU temp at least. |

What exactly is your problem with that post? Sounds to me like the guy tried my fix and it worked, in which case his comment is ON TOPIC. Even if it isn't you came down on him pretty hard..... |

Was this after you underclocked the GPU? If so please post the settings that worked for you. This way it might help others out. |

i know its classic but i downloaded the newest drivers for my ati mobility radeon 4670 (those coming with catalyst 10.7) since then not any crashes and that without restarting! before i had over 1 year old drivers relying on automatically updates.. i was running the longest stages and classic without any problem, so please ppl check your drivers first

Glad to hear that the latest drivers worked for you.The latest drivers are really useful if you have a recent graphics card. If like me, your card is a little older, as often as not, driver changes can adversely effect the performance older (+3yrs) cards.
Case in point, I had to roll back my drivers by 6 months to get one that wasn't leaving strange artifacts in PCM2010. It's not just cyanide. I had to do the same thing to get Fallout 3 running smoothly.
Sometimes it's a case of trial and error. Can be a pain though, download, install, test and roll back if not better.

I tried using the program and method you suggested Popeye. I have win7 and installed the program "as administrator". If I run it normal I get a message:
"Can not connect to lower level driver. Please reinstall ATI tray tools under administration right with UAC dissabled."
When I try to run the installed program "as administrator" my computer crashes and reboots.
Do you have any idea what may cause this? |

Did you disable UAC as suggested? |

Yup. I also tried using a newer version of the tray tools and signing off the drives as per this page: https://www.bayare...-xp-vista/ but my computer reboots when I try to start the program. A little strange. |

I found this forum: https://forums.gur...mp;page=48 and sadly it appears that my graphics card is not supported. Ouch. Well in 2011 I may get to play this game Thanks for the help Popeye. After having tried basically everything I could think of to solve this I am almost sure that my graphic cards just overheats, pretty annoying but such is life. Come winter I will bring my laptop out on the porch and then maybe I can play a little |
