It depends on the time gap setting in the DB. If it's set to 20, there has to be c. 20 seconds from when the 1st rider passes the line to the next rider does for a gap to be registered. |

How to change that?

You need to open the DB with an editor such as the Full Editor V4. |

if i were to change this value to 5, would it for example mean that even if a group finishes in a bunch (peloton) that the guys at the rear would be given a different time instead of the same time? |

This amount tells the computer to check if there is a gap of 20 or in your case 5 seconds between two riders. Only if there is such a gap all riders after the gap will have a different time.
I hope you understand how it works in real life cycling: The commisioners decide if there was a gap or not. All riders after the gap get a different time.
This game has no commisioners therefore the game uses standard values which take into account the 1:10 ratio of the stages (riders seem to run faster) to simulate real life gaps in the 4 types of stages.
In TT the exact travel time has to be measured => gene_f_time_gap = 0
In real life flat stages the peloton will be large during the finish because of the sprinter trains, but still all riders in the peloton have to get the same time, else the would all try to get to the front and cause much havok.
The game uses the value 20 sec. which represents 2 seconds in real life racing.
In real life hilly stages you expect more small groups arriving at the finish line. To simulate this, the time gap in the game has to be reduced to 10 sec (in game).
The value has been reduced for mountain stages to create even more groups. The game uses 7 sec. wich might seem too much but the riders are slower when going up.
So change it to whatever you want and try it out in the game until it feels right for you. |

so the preset in the game is for:
flat stages 20s,
for hilly stages 10s and
for mountain stages 7s.. did i get this right?
for me it aalso feels like id need to reduce that a little. so maybe someone having a bit experience has any suggestions in order to make it more realistic? |

In the PCM.daily DBs for PCM09, we adjusted them to:
Flat finish: 15
Hill finish: Between 12 and 7
Tough mountain finish: 4 |

We didn't change it for the PCM10 DB, simply because it requires a lot of testing and fine-tuning which we didn't have time for. |

Yup, you need to know the exact stages a bit. |

Well, I don't really agree, we fixed Vuelta for our multiplayer game in 5 minutes, just by looking on profiles and setting correct values in DB.
Changing this value for all races wouldn't take more than 3-4 hours.
Or you can go easy mode, and simply change every 20 into 15, 12 into 9 and 7 into 4. That way it gonna be correct for 95% of stages. |

The TdF does not have time bonuses, so the setting is correct (Google it, if you do not believe me).
You could change it by editing the classification file and not the database (only database requires a special editor, classification can be edited using a normal text editor) |
