Puzzle - How can this happen?!

Well i had this picture on my computer and i slowly forgot where i got it from but its bothering me that i cant find the solution of why there is that square left on the 2. triangle... do you guys have a clue?

ahh yea heres the picture:

The key is that the slope of the dark green triangle doesn't match the slope of the red triangle so that there is a slight inward bulge in the top arrangement and a slight outward bulge in the bottom arrangement. ( 2/5 != 3/8 )

Also, if you turn the dark green and red triangles into rectangles by doubling them and flipping them over and you figure out the area of what remains, you will see where the extra space comes from. ( 2x8 = 3x5 + 1! )
