Hi, i am new to this game and after a few races i cannot put in a decent time trial performance myself & i have to let the AI control my riders. What do i need to do to ensure that i can get good time trial results?

first of all the best thing for you is that both bars will finish at the same time.
second:the better the rider in time trial the better result.

ok thanks is there any real technique to getting both bars to finish at the same time? should i keep the effort for the rider the same throughout or change it according to the terrain? and finally, what kind of effort levels should i use for a good time trialist (75+) for 20/40/60km TT's?
Sorry for the mountain of questions!

Sorry for the mountain of questions!
1:the shortar the stage the higher the effort.
2:its your dicison but in my opinion more on the terrain that the rider is good at.
3:20km:70-80%
40km:65-70%
60km:55-60%
but it also depens on the terriain and the fitness.

Roughly what he said.
Don't forget though the end of a 3 week tour TT will require less effort, or else you'll tire out quickly
