Don't do anything stressfull during the evening
Don't eat right before you're off to bed
Try to calm down an hour before by watching or something

That's all i've got...

1. Drink plenty of water
2. Eat a lot of Carbs so you fill up your storage and don't get empty on the second half of the race, but as Mowinckel91 said - dont eat 1 hour before bedtime
3. Go to bed early so you can get a lot of sleep
4. Picture your self winning the race and let your imagination go wild, that way you get psykologicol ready and you get tired.
5. Get up early to eat a lot and drink a lot.
6. Be there early to get ready

I know thats not only how to sleep Pfft
But thats all i got..

Also try sleeping well on the days before, because depending on your character or depending on whichever unpredictable thing, you might not sleep well that particular night, either because of the stress or any external event.

One thing to know : the first hours of sleep are those when you recover the most. Usually 11 pm / 1 am is the most important time of the night, so try to sleep at that time if you're used to it.

If your race is in the morning, or at noon, try to fill yourself with carbs rather at lunch the day before, or at dinner two days before the race. 12 or 16 hours might not be enough to assimilate it.

Oh, and just relax, don't less the stress get at you, it's just bike cycling in the end, nothing really important, no matter that it's a National championship or anything.

Good luck anyway.
