Fun Fact: Before the TT stage to Avoriaz in the 79 Tour, Hinault was trailing Zoetemelk by 49 seconds, but this TT stage from Evian - Avoriaz gave Hinault the TDF lead by 2:37.

Best rider: Chavanel, although he was lucky with the peleton's decision on stage 2
Best stage: The Arenberg stage
Best team: Quickstep. They have had an amazing week. 2 stages for Chava + 2 days in yellow and the KOM jersey for Pinau.
Worst rider: Serge Pauwels
Worst stage: The stage to Spa (stage 2). A lot of falls and a major anticlimax at the end
Worst team: Phooton. After Cardozo crashed in the prolouge they lost probably their only chance for a stage win. Walls have been good though.
Bonus awards!
Most boring team: A lot of teams that have not shown themselves in the first week, but Radioshack is by far the most boring. They never attack or take any chances. Phooton has at least had some riders in breaks and Walls who attacked yesterday.
Stupid decision of the week: The decision on stage 2

Best rider: Andy Schleck - He's ridden perfectly except for the prologue.
Best stage: Stage 3 - the cobbles!
Best team: Quickstep - two stage wins, two days in yellow, the KoM jersey, De Weert climbing well today (hope for some Barredo action soon!)
Worst rider: Tempting to say Lance, but I think I'll go with Cunego. Lost time "on purpose" and cracked when he tried to go after Chavanel.
Worst stage: Stage 2 - Could potensially have been a great stage.
Worst team: Relative to their strength on paper, I have to say RadioShack.
Bonus awards!
Most boring team: RadioShack
Stupid decision of the week: Not sprinting for the 2nd place on stage 2 (very original choice, I know).
Predictions:
RadioShack's team bus breaks down on a remote mountain road.
Gesink and Menchov crash five times each on the training ride and Garate eventually makes the top 10 in the absence of the two captains.
Vinokourov cooks some traditional Kazahk horse-meat which makes Contador super-strong. Contador then goes on to win the Tour. |
