With a longer climb than the Cooper Mountain, from the third stage, at the finish this seems to be the queen stage of the race. Alarcon, the yellow jersey wearer, is the big favorite to take the win once again but with some other good climbers here, you never know
Six riders went away in the main breakaway of the day: Sorensen, Lagutin, Mach, Moreno, Jelloul and Muller
At the top of the first climb Jelloul attacked from the leading group and he was the first one to pass the climb, followed by Moreno and Mach
The Red Bull rider attacked again on the next climb but this time he did it too later and he was only second at the top, behind Moreno
At the top of the third climb of the day, the escapes were spread on the road one by one. Moreno proved to be the strongest in the windy weather conditions and he was leading the race, while Jelloul became the virtual KoM jersey wearer with a third place on the climb
With 20 kilometers left from the stage and with the first slopes of the final climb already reached, Moreno still held an advantage of 2 minutes and 30 seconds over the pack, while the other escapes were either caught or ready to be caught
The Santander rider spent the next 10 kilometers leading the race but he was then caught by David Abal and Perez Sanchez, who got a small gap over the pack after an acceleration from the UBS rider
But the new leading group didn't last for too long and with 5 kilometers before the finish, the pack was leading the race, with Kessiakoff and Larsson in the first positions, followed by a bunch of Petronas riders
With no one able to get away from the pack, it was the yellow jersey who made the first move, 3 kilometers before the summit...
At first only Abal, Augustyn, Raisin and Peterson were able to follow him, but after his acceleration ended the rest of the pack was able to come pretty close as well
Still Alarcon was strong enough to keep himself in the lead, with Abal the only one being able to get really close to him, with just one kilometer to go
Behind them, the sprint for the third place started but it looked like the first and the second place were already taken
Abal didn't show any kind of threat to Alarcon, who got the third stage win in a row for him and Ikea, performance which will most likely give him all the distinctive jerseys
David Abal finished second, 9 seconds behind Alarcon, but with a bad performance from Santander in the TTT a top 5 in the GC seems to be the best he can get at the moment
Augustyn led the main chasing group, with Raisin, Peterson and Martinez, 23 seconds behind the Ikea rider
Lloret led a second group of 4 riders, with Perez Sanchez, Rohregger and Eltink, 43 seconds behind the stage winner, while the pack lost 1 minute and 4 seconds
