Mount Hood Cycling Classic - Stage 2
alexkr00
The second stage in Mount Hood is a rather flat criterium with no categorized climbs. There are a few good sprinters riding here but Vaitkus, Chicchi and Forster are the main 3 favorites to take the stage win today

Bobridge, Dionne, Bol and Parra Pinto were the main escapes of the stage. Griffith also attacked but he never managed to join the leading group. The other 4 had an max advantage of 5 minutes over the pack but Santander never let them a chance and they were all caught inside the last 25 kilometers of the stage

Before the 5 kilometers banner it was clear that the stage will end up in a mass sprint but the sprint trains were still far away from leading the pack, with Red Bull looking to be the strongest, leading their way out for Arashiro

With just 3 kilometers to go, Lindgren managed to get a gap between him and the rest of the pack. Chtioui was trying to keep it close, with Vaitkus right behind him and Forster following him as well, while Red Bull failed to launch Arashiro properly

Lindgren was leading the race when the actual sprint started but the pack wasn't far away from him, with Vaitkus, Forster and Chicchi all on the same side of the road

The Ikea rider lost the lead to Vaitkus right before the final kilometer, Forster and Chicchi being now the main threats for the Telenor rider

Vaitkus looked to be able to hang on but after a really tight finish the win went to Forster, who was a little bit faster in the final meters, while Chicchi took the third place. Even though Vaitkus finished second it was enough for him to take the lead from Abal
