mass sprint
pimarkes
The mass sprints are just driving me crazy. I just cannot make a good train. Sometimes they follow, and sometimes they dont. I'm now in February with Astana. I had a sprinter (Bazayev) and he was supposed to follow Iglinsky who was going to speed up for him. So I select Bazayev, then right-click on Iglinsky and the sprint-follow button. Only thing, he doesn't follow! And beside his name on the left, the sprint-follow button also isn't there. I had this a few times now, and it really annoys me because I cannot win a flat race like this. Someone know what i do wrong? I mean the weird thing is that it sometimes does work, and sometimes theyre just not doing what i'm clicking....

When you cannot follow a rider it means an other rider is already following him so you should try following just when you pass the 12 km limit.

Also, from my experience it seems effort number is taken into account when trying to sprint-follow. For example, when you instruct a cyclist A to sprint-follow cyclist B, make sure cyclist A is about 65 effort. For me, it seems that if their effort is below 65 or 60, they can't "keep" up with the cyclist they are supposed to "follow", so they fall back. I don't know for sure, if that's required, but it seems to work for me. At exactly 11.9k remaining, I hit "pause" and setup my sprint train, making sure all cyclists in the sprint train are above 65. And as I get closer to the 3k sprint start, I ramp that 65 up into the 70's, and then into the mid-to upper 90's as each cyclist is sprinting (but not those sprint following). Maybe I've over-complicated it, but it works for me, I get lots of sprint victories, but it all hinges on having a lead out guy that has a flat of at least 75, I use Cancellera who gets my train a huge head start on the field typically.

You're so funny, why do you care about %, timing and good sprinters if you are using cancellara as lead out. You could win every sprint with him by only "leading out" if you do it right.

I have the same trouble. I won many races but i must have the best riders to won, mine train can't get enough fast or faster than other teams, but i have cancellara, voight, tony martin, gutierez and sanchez which have flat over 80 and sprinters boonen, ciolek and breschel. So pls tell me how can in last km mine riders with train get tired and can't pass other trains with only 2 max 3 riders, which have flat maybe just about 70... Most races i won if i got my sprinter behind other riders...

I can only imagine two scenarios where you could get trouble winning despite using such a train.
1. Your riders are not fit or you wasted them during the stage so that they have no yellow left for the final 10 km.
2. You start the train too early or have your train running too fast making your riders loosing the yellow to fast.

I will try get them later, but many of times mine train get disrupted with other riders if i am too late. I start to fllow 12km to finish, but always i did that my 1st rider follow rider who is making the pace for all, so he could not get tired. I will try different approach to get win. Because with this team i want to win every sprint, i win them quite a lot but not all Smile) For me its easier in mountains with making pace or counter-attacks, perhaps i have better riders to mountains llike valverde, samuel sanchez, kreuzinger, brajkovič, lokwist and uran...

I just don't know what i'm doing wrong..I've tried every guide to sprints there is, but just can't make it work. At the moment i'm at the Giro with Ben Swift and Sky. Got one top 10 with him. When there is a tiny hill in the race my sprinter dies...

So i quit the race when Swift couldn't make it top 50 in the sprint, and tried to simulate the stage and of course he won...

Simulating shouldn't be easier should it?
Anyone got any input, starting to get quite pissed Sad

It shouldn`t be that easy to win sprints with Swift. Except there are no good sprinters at the Giro. But with a normal train or even just 1 rider in front of him it is quite easy to finish 2-5 in every race.
Except of long races and a hill close to the finish. Then other points will influence the result, too.

I guess you are playing the Giro 2010. The problem is, that the person who created the stages did not think about the AI of the game. So the stages look real but are crap for playing them in 3D. If you simulate, then the game does not care about the profile and simulates all stages as if they are totally flat. This will explain the difference between simulating and racing in 3D.

Mass sprints just don't make any sense. My sprinter is going 2-4 km/h faster than his opponents but he just can't get past him.

Sometimes, a rider is blocked behind someone else, but this does not happen all the time. I have never compared the speed in such cases, or do you mean something else?

I'm using riders with 78+ sprint ratings to beat Cav. Feels wierd, but here's how I think the Sprint Train system works best in PCM

You need...
1 rider ("A") with a flats rating of 75+
1 rider with ("B") a flats rating of 77+
1 Lead-out ("L") with a sprint rating of 75+
1 Sprinter ("S") with a sprint rating of 78+

optionally, your 5th person is...
1 Super-Sprinter ("SS"), with a sprint rating of ~80. OR 1 clean-up man with a sprint rating <= 74

At 20km...
Have someone not in the train (climbers?) protect your S and your L.
Select your train, A, B, L, and S, then,
Use the relay at 80% effort to get them up near the front.
Once your S and L are there, have them hold position.

At 12km...
Pause the game. At this point,t he AI has about 10 riders stringing out the front. Set your trains effort to 85.
Have rider A sprint follow the last guy in the AI relay line
Unpause the game for 1 seconds, let rider A move up a little.
Have rider B sprint follow A.
Unpause the game for 1 seconds, let rider B move up a little.
Have rider L sprint follow B.
Unpause the game for 1 seconds, let rider A move up a little.
Have rider S sprint follow L.
Unpause the game, you should have a nice train set up. Don't feel bad about the AI doing the work for you... you're still 12k out.

At 8km...
Set everyone at 99% effort.
Have rider A sprint-follow the third guy in the AI peloton string
He will pull everyone up, and fast.
Use that momentum when he gets near the front. Use the dot, he goes all out until he runs out of red or yellow bars.
Rider B goes on the dot, at 99%.

At 3km...
Who ever is at the front of you train should start the sprint. Ideally, its rider B when he's almost spent.
