Hello,
I've played PCM 2009 only for a few days now, and find it quite hard. I've focused myself on la fleche wallonne right now (not in career mode) because i have to learn things. But i never win and i don't really know what i do wrong.
Example: I've just played the race about an hour ago, with Liquigas. I send in Kreuziger, Basso and Pellizotti as big guys for the Wall of Huy. This time Pellizotti's day form was very good (+4) and the escapees were catched about 7 kilometers before the finish line. When the wall started, Pellizotti was in about 15-12th place. I started the sprint with him with 800 meters left, and he was definitely the strongest, but he only finished in 4th position. I think it has something to do with the position in which he starts the sprint. But i just don't know how to get him further in front of the peloton. He was being protected by Quinziato almost the whole race, and by Kreuziger at the end, so that's not the point. Does anyone know what I did wrong? What should I try?
Greetz,
Pim
PS I'm from Holland, so my english might be a little weird sometimes. Sorry for that. |

Nothing wrong with your English Most of us aren`t English I guess so it`s always not 100% grammatical correct.
If you just started to play it will be quite hard to win the hilly classics. Even after years i find it quite hard to win them, especially in race mode out of career because all good riders will take part in good form then.
What difficulty are you playing?
It sounds like you wait until you can sprint?!?
Maybe you should try to attack a few kilometres or just 1 km before the sprint button will appear. So you will be a few seconds in front and have an advantage.
Another point is the tactic during the race. If you stay on the "holding position" status (3 points) the whole race he will be more tired than with steering him manually with the "1 point" button at the hills. It`s a little bit difficult to find the right moment and the right percent in the beginning but you will get it after a few times.
During a career it will be easier because there are less favorite riders and a few of them aren`t really prepared for the classics.

Two quick tips: During the sprint, make sure to counter-sprint someone (perhaps one from your own team). Also, don't set the sprinting effort to 100 % - he'll tire out before the top.

Yes i do wait to sprint, because he'll tire out otherwise (happened to me the first 2 times). But a little jump before might do it. And what do you mean with '3 points' and '1 point' ? |

This one is difficult to win.
My prefered tactic is get your best guy close to the front of the relay at the bottom. Then go to "dot" and a high number. Counter the first or second rider who comes past you - then hope you have enough to come around them. The AI tends to be insanely strong on this one at times though. |

3 points is what you are in the beginning.
then there are other buttons like attack, sprint, leading, leading over a longer time, and another button with just 1 point "dot". This is necessary on hills, mountains or cobbles. |

oke now i understand what you mean with '3 points'. but the 'dot' is the big dot with an arrow right? the rider will than exactly take the pace you set with the effort level (for example 80%)??
But the tactic worked! I played with astana, the fleche wallonne again, and when the attack was caught back, about 10km to go, there was an attack from chavanal, valverde, cunego and co. I counter-attacked, then waited and attacked at 2.8km to go. i had a little lead over valverde, cunego and a.Schleck, touched the sprint-button with 600meters to go and won! Thanks very much, i think i get it much better now. |

and to fenian_1234. When do you go to 'dot and a high percentage'? with 8-10km to go? |

Depends how fast the last 10k are. I'd try to get into the relay train and if timed just right be very close to the front at the bottom of the climb.
Ideally I'd go to dot right at the bottom of the Muur. |

Dot doesn`t mean pace. It`s the dot without anythin else.
It means that your rider will ride your percents and not like the group he is in.
That makes him feel better on mountains.
Dot and 65 makes him ride the same speed but on 170 frequency and pace or holding positions makes him riding same speed wit 180 frequency, so he won`t be able to atack later. |

Point I meant just the "dot", to race as fast as your percents allow. Nothing with the day form |
