6 short road stages and a fairly short time-trial make this race. That time-trial and the hilly 3rd stage maye be decisive for the overall classification, but bonus seconds in the other 5 stages may also be a factor.

Konovalovas and Craven seem to suit well in the route, so they seem to be the favourites for the overall victory. Clement is good against the clock, but in the hills, there are plenty of good names who can make a difference: Froome, Hermans (also good in time-trails, a favourite for the win too), Bertagnolli, Gerrans, Ben Nasser, Bellis. These names will surely be up there in stage 3, making it difficult for the better TTers.
In the sprints, Swift is really strong. Although the sprinter's field is not bad, Swift may dominate the flat stages. He is reasonable in time-trials and he is able to get through some hills with the best, which makes him a favourite for the overall too. Guillén, Chavanel, Sabatini, Awang and Manan are also up for good placements in the flat.
Sadly, only one Kiwi will race in his home land. The young prospect Jesse Sergent will surely have support from the crowd. |

My target is 2 stages, and I think Ive covered all angles. Stannard will be a big favourite for the time trial, and with no Ignatiev, its a great opportunity to deliver. Hopefully Swift can triumph in the sprints, you can just nevever tell with them, while Froome ought to be up there in hills and GC.

expect very interesting battle, my best wishes are Clement in TOP5 overall (stage 3 will show more) and finally win the stage...short flat criterium stages seems to be perfect to surprise huge favourite Ben Swift

I am not optimistic.
There is a criterium.
There will be crashes.
Hermans will be in a top 10 position and then crash and drop to 50th.
This will occur.
I will be depressed.

Yep, thanks for sending Bellis, with his 62 TT, to a race where a TT could be just as important as the hilly stage. And again, for having Ben Nasser follow Bellis everywhere, rather than take the lead himself in other races.

I hope that Sabatini might change the bad luck of my sprinters here. Then it's up to Florencio and Rohregger to do kinda good in the GC. I kind of regret sending Rohregger since he only got 70 in hills, but I might get lucky (I need some luck :-p)

On first glance I thought the Tour of Wellingtone was a downgraded Tour Down Under with a Time Trial.
On second look I noticed that stage 3 is a bit tasty which pretty much finishes on a hill top, making it difficult for a regrouping. So on that basis I would say this race favours the hilly leaders.
Whether Swift can stay with everyone on that stage will probably dictate whether or not he will be overall winner.
The time bonuses will surely be a factor, probably more so that the short time trial. My predo for top 5:
1. Hermans
2. Bellis
3. Swift
4. Konovalinos
5. Craven
Looking forward to reading about this one untal, particularly stages 2, 3 and 4. |

The bonus seconds for the GC haven't worked. You need to give SN the stuff to sort it out.

Theres time bonuses in the young riders class, but not GC?
And why on earth is Swfit using Bennett as a leadout
Oh and Froome is cursed. Crashed in his main race last year, the Tour of Britain, and now crashes in TDU and Wellington this year.

Congratulations to Pokerstars, the Tour Down Under was a hard luck race for you beagle. Don't think any of the riders who got time bonus' are a great threat to the overall so a good day for the hilly/TTers. That is of course apart from Konovalovas, Bobridge and Froome! So I guess a great day for Cillit Bang and Wiggle also!
Those later crits could see some action also - crashtastic! |
