First off is the flat Down Under Classic:
In 2009, attack after attack prevented a bunch sprint, and Mikhail Khalilov was able to win from Niki Terpstra and Simon Gaywood, but last year we did see a bunch sprint, with Erik Mohs triumphing ahead of Matthew Goss, Peter Kennaugh, Miguel Chacon and Russell Downing.
This year the Down Under Classic is the most popular of all C1 races, despite being probably the shortest. 18 teams line up, including a number of top sprinters. Cavendish, Kennaugh, Nazon, Vantomme, Hutarovich, Haedo, Vanderaerden, Casper, Bozic, Van Heerden, Awang, Croket, Davis, Chicchi, Westling, Ciolek, Guillen, Mohs, Vaitkus, Brown, Thorsen, Gatto - and no doubt many others.

We then move on to the HC Tour Down Under.
Breakaways decided the race in 2008, and as ProTour race in 2009, but last season was different. The sprinters seemed to be doing their best to keep the race under control, with Renshaw, Van Heerden and Gasparotto each winning stages, however the puncheurs also did well Van Garderen winning Stage 2, Astarloa winning Stage 3 - albeit with no time gaps. And on the decisive Willunga stage, it was Aussie Wes Sulzberger who won, and crucially, got a gap - a gap that earned him overall victory.
So, lets just summarise some of the top sprinters, puncheurs, and Australians who will be on show here.
Sprinters: Cavendish, Vantomme, Hutarovich, Casper, Vanderaerden, Van Heerden, Croket, Davis, Westling, Ciolek, Guillen, Brown, Vaitkus, Impey, Steegmans, Rowe
Puncheurs: Froome, Roche, Bellis, Ben Nasser, Rast, Carrara, Flugel, Bertagnolli, Hermans
Aussies: Sulzberger, Gerrans, Bobridge, Sutton, Hansen, Lloyd
But of course, if we return to a breakaway deciding it, the potential contenders are endless.

I'm interested to see whether I made the right decision in sending Steegmans to this one. Think he has more chance of staying with the leaders than someone like Cavendish if things get nasty on Stage 4. Then again Cav is much faster in the sprint.
The classic will be a lottery with that many sprinters....

I put my trust in the flat stages. I hope a train with Klier / Rafaa (get the team in front) - Te Brake / Guldhammer - Siedler - Brown/Vaitkus - Vaitkus/Brown can net me some good placements. Though it might be the wrong race to waste their race days on looking at the sprinters... My bet is on yet another failrace :-p

You've just got Wiggle to contend with instead. The Side Kick is raring to go... I think...

yeah, after Bloemfontein I am not racing until San Luis.
I am pretty much only in the mountains this year, along with the hilly classics with flat finishes.

My teams first race, we are out classed but maybe 1 or 2 top ten stage results is realistic.
It is generally known in Australia that South Africans are better than everyone, so we will use our home ground knowlage to attempt a clean sweep with Impey |

On that basis, Van Heerden is bound to do well again.

why is not my far best rider set as team leader in Down Under Classic??? I was hoping for building of strong sprint train and now I can imagine to see Mohs as lead-out man for Van Impe

The general rule is to ignore the startlist in terms of race leader, it sometimes seems a bit random

Go Hutarovich! Although I'm not sure he'll be able to do something against such a strong sprint field.

I'm only riding the classic. If it's a break, i got a good chance with Bagdonas joining it. If it's a sprint i'm hoping Nazon will finally get a lead-out by someone.

why didn't you send Goss here?
Last year he finished second and he's an Aussie so he would have had a bigger chance to get a high spot
