Route
Previous winners
2010: Florentino Marquez (SL Benfica)
2009: Tom Danielson (Fed-Ex)
Favourites
As always (as confirmed by the previous winners), Vuelta al Tachira is a stage race for the climbers - the first of the season. With just 10 km of (rather uphill) time trialling to do, it's open for anyone with climbing skills.
None of the previous winners are back, and in general, the field is rather weak. Quiksilver's Yeison Delgado is the best climber, and although he doesn't have remarkable stamina, his main rivals, Astarloza from Bbox and Schwab from LEGO, aren't better.
That said, the high mountains in Venezuela ensure that we're up for a very interesting race (due to start Saturday or Sunday).

Argh! And I did really consider this race, but were afraid my climbers would be too weak. I could've least netted a podium.
GL to the teams participating

Hmmm interesting field, the 12 stage marathon I am sure put a lot of people off.
My team has two leaders Rodas and Jose Chacon who I am hoping can cling onto the coattails of their rivals. Judging on the way last years race went that was dominated by the dominate mountain climber I guess I would have to make my predo for top 5 this:
1) Delgado (Quiksilver)
2) Asterloza (Bbox)
3) Ochoa (Youtube)
4) Colarado (Sport Lisboa)
5) Schwab (Lego)
I think the battle will very much be between Delgado and Asterloza behind him its difficult to say. Quiksilver's number two Mercado or my team Red Bull's Julian Rodas could be a danger also.

I think the time trial ability wouldn't decide this as there are 5 stages where definetly an attack would decide a stage
I wouldn't underestimate Benfica for the general classification and there could be an interesting battle between Red Bull and LEGO for the sprints but with Red Bull having the better sprinters I hope that Schwab could make the Top 5 here and Radochla could get a Top 3 place at the 2nd stage

Kind of glad I sent Delgado to this now, although the rest of my team might have been overkill by the looks of the field. Probably only needed to send 1 of my mountain helpers |

Congrats to Quiksilver - a great start is this a sign of things to come a battle between Quiksilver and Bbox.
What a flop of a stage for Red Bull Cycling...
I guess as a new team we have a lot to learn! I think there may be a leader of the team battle between Venezualan Jose Chacon and Julian Rodas by the looks.
No dramas, tomorrow is another day and perhaps we will see a few more attacks! |

BBox is actually doing something good! Go Veileux! (porbably spelt his name wrong, but I don't care!) Hopefully, I'll score some good points here.

Its a very bright Blue peloton isnt it, with Quiksilver, BBox, and Youtube.
And great to see my former rider Franklin Chacon take 2nd. Surprising it happened in a bunch sprint though
