2011 Points System

The points system is mostly the same as last year, but some changes have been made - mostly with one day races, reducing the huge gap that was often found between 1st and 2nd place. There are also now points for the Top 3 in GC after each stage of a stage race, not just the race leader, and perhaps most significantly is the addition of points for Team Classifications in Stage Races. A certain amount of points will be awarded to the best 5 riders from the better ranked teams in each stage race.

There is also a change to how ranking points are treated in the Points and KoM competititions when riders are tied on points - rather than just going on the position Cyanide gives, the points will be shared. e.g. If 3rd and 4th in the KoM classification at the Tour de France are tied on pts, rather than 35 points going to 1, and 25 to the other, each will get 30 points.
