Hi All,
I have the annoying habit to stop my carreer in PCM with every little dissappointment, resulting in that I'm playing the first races over and over and over. So I thought, let's make a thread, perhaps in that case I will manage to stick a little longer to the game. The team will be Garmin. I think it is a nice mix of sprinters, riders for classics and the big tours. The difficulty level will be hard (first career on hard with me, so don't expect me to smash the competition) and the financial difficulty will be normal. |

Meet the team:
Tyler Farrar His main objectives for this season are to win Milan-San Remo, to win the green yersey in the Tour de France and to get some victories in the Vuelta. The team for the Tour de france will be built around him.
Christian Vande Velde His main objective is the Giro. The sponsors expect a podium finish here. Other important races are Paris-Nice and the Tour
Johan Van Summeren Coming new to the team, Van Summeren will go for the classics. In the Tour he will try to win a stage and pull the sprints for Farrar.
Martijn Maaskant Maaskant will together with Van Summeren go for the early season classics. Especially Paris Roubaix is an important race for the sponsors
Tom Danielson Danielson will go for the Tour and will be our leader in the Vuelta.
Robert Hunter Hunter will try to win stages in the Giro and some smaller races. In the Tour he will pull the sprints for Farrar. His season will start with the Tour of Qatar.
David Zabriskie Zabriskie will try to win world ITT championships together with David Millar and Christian vande Velde. Further he will try to win hilly tours including long ITTs, like the Tirrenico. |

The Australian ITT Championship went pretty well. Rogers set the winning time very early in the race. Cameron Meyer was an outsider for winning the ITT, especially since Cadel Evans was absent. He started carefully and was + 16" behind after 15 kms, but managed to catch up a little time and finished 2nd at only +8".

The road race became a big soft. Lowe and Bobridge tried to get into breakaways but did not get away. Eventually, Matthew Wilson got into the breakaway, together with amongst others Sutherland and Menzies, but only got a maximum lead of 1'40". Trent Lowe fell in the downhill and had to do a lot of effort to get back with the pack right on time to join in with a counterattack with O'Grady, Rogers, Davis and Gerrans. He managed to get 8th position which is probably the best he could do.

TOUR DOWN UNDER RESULTS
FARRAR - ZABRISKIE - LOWE - BOBRIDGE - DEAN - WILSON - C. MEYER
Stage 1: As predicted the firs stage ended up in a mass sprint. Zabriskie nicely delivered Tyler Farrar in the wheel of Pozatto setting him up for a great sprint. Unfortunately Pozatto and Cavendish were just a little faster. Dean went along in the major breakaway but fell back even before the first intermediate sprints. He and Bobridge lost time on the main pack.

Stage 2: Also this stage became a mass sprint. But the pack was split in several groups with strong riders like Cooke, O'Grady, Heado (well done Team Saxo), Van Avermaet, Hondo and Chavanel losing valuable time. Also Meyer, Dean, Lowe and Wilson did not finish with the pack. Zabriskie and Bobridge pulled the sprint for Farrar, who had Pozzato and Cavendish in his wheel. Eventually, Pozzato managed to pass Farrar, who finish 2nd just before Cavendish.

Stage 3: With a difficult finish Farrar did not have any change for winning this stage. But by good work of Lowe and Meyer he managed to stay with the pack and did not loose time. Lowe, Dean, Wilson and Bobridge again lost some time, similarly to Greipel, Bos and Brown. Pozzato scored another victory. It will be extremely difficult to beat him now.

Stage 4: No suprisingly again a mass sprint. Farrar was nicely delivered to the front by Zabriskie, but he chose the wrong wheel. He managed to pass a couple of sprinters but could not get futher up then 5th place.

Stage 5: Another mass sprint another P2. But it was a very difficult one. On the last hil 25 km the peleton broke in two with Farrar being in the second part. With a huge effort he managed to get back in the front when both group recombined and was perfectly launched by Zabriskie. O'Grady was just in a slightly better position and took victory just before Farrar.

Stage 6: No suprise. A mass sprint. In all the fuss of the last few kilometres Farrar lost his good position for the sprint when he lost the wheel of Pozzato and finished only at 8th place. This resulted in a solid 3rd place in the overal standings. Good superprestige and Protour points, but no stage win. Cavendish secured the win of the Tour Down Under by taking the victory in the last stage.

So I figured out how one can add pictures, thus I will add a couple in the future. The Qatar TTT is coming up, which I always loose horribly. Even with the best TT specialists in my teams. At longer TTTs I usually do OK. Does anybody have a suggestion? Otherwise I just go for stage wins and bring my TT specialists to Tour de Mediterraneen. |

RESULTS CHALLENGE VOLTA CYCLISTA A MALLORCA
VAN SUMMEREN - HESJEDAL - KESSIAKOFF - MAASKANT - FISCHER - DUGGAN - MARTIN - KREDER - VAN DER VELDE
Stage 1: With sprinters like McEwen, Napolitano and Bennati in the pack it was bound to become a mass sprint. Kessiakoff jumped along in a breakaway but had a total off day and was back in the peleton quickly. The others were caught a little later. Bennati was the strongest one today, but due to great work of Maaskant and Van Summeren setting up the sprint for Fischer we got a nice second place.

Stage 3: Today there is a hilly stage on the program. Kessiakoff joined in on an early breakaway with 10 others and managed to get a maximum lead of 7 minutes over the pack. On the last hill before the finish, only Russ, Noe and Kessiakoff remained, when they were caught up by Arrieta, Fedrigo and Rodriguez. After several attempts to break away, Rodriguez, Arrieta, Fedrigo and Kessiakoff sprinted for the victory, which was claimed by Fedrigo. The peleton finished at 1'04" including Van Summeren, Martin, Maaskant, Fischer, Hesjedal and Kreder.

Stage 4: Another hilly stage. Maaskant and Van Summeren were all day involved in breakaways, but in the end it was only Gentili who managed to get away. Rodrigues was to first one to break away on the last slope. Nobody was able to follow him. After Rodriguez a group with Failli, Fedrigo, Arrieta and Duran followed. Kessiakoff and Hesjedal were in a group just behind that and Van Summeren followed just a little behind that. Kessiakoff is still 4th in the overal standings, while Hesjedal now is 10th.

Stage 5: Another stage with hills. Bbox Bouygies and Katusha controlled the pack and let nobody escape. However when Gentili, Arrieta and Fedrigo attacked, Rodriguez was left behind. Kessiakoff managed to catch up with Fedrigo and co. In a desperate attempt Rodriguez eventually made it the the attackers, from which Hivert had escaped. He was no treath to the general standings and nobody went to get him back. Hesjedal finished right behind all favourites. Benatti was fastest of the pack followed by Fischer.

RESULTS TOUR OF QATAR

Stage 1: The TTT was a small disaster. Garmin was the favourite for the race but finished 3 seconds behind Katusha and our primary sprinter Hunter was not able to stay with the rest of the team and lost valuable seconds (+ 16), just like Travis Meyer (+ 15) and Stetina (+ 20).

Stage 2: Attempts from Tuft to break away and steal the yellow yersey by bonnification seconds failed and the breakaway was caught before the first sprint. Hunter managed to catch 4 seconds but could not play a role in the final sprint that was won by Finetto.

Stage 4: Finally! Hunter was the superior sprinter today and scores the teams first victory this year. Finetto became second and takes over the lead from the Katushas. Bobridge took 3 bonnification seconds and is now 5" behind the leader together with Ignatiev, Mazzanti, Bodrogi and Serov. Swift followes at 6" and Hunter at 7".

Stage 6: The race was nicely controlled by the Meyer brothers after which Millar brought Hunter into the wheel of Finetto. Not the best wheel for the win, but definitively the save wheel for winning the Tour of Qatar, since Swift was far away. Hunter came close to winning the stage. Besides winning the overal standings Hunter also won most points for the sprinters cup.

SKY did not bring any of their specialists, except for Cummings. I'm still happy with the results though, but I need to win a couple of sprints with Hunter to win the Tour of Qatar.

Stage 1: With many excellent sprinters in the field, it was no suprise that this resulted in a mass sprint. With Hunter in Qatar and Farrar resting, Dean was launched by Zabriskie for the sprint. 8th place was probably best he could do.

Stage 2: Another TTT. With Vander Velde and Danielson not being in great shape Garmin started calmly passing through in the midfield halfway the race. Then Pate and Zabriskie set the pace during which time Garmin lost a couple of riders. With Vander Velde, Meier and Petersen barely hanging on, we claimed victory.

Stage 3: Strong winds dominated this mainly flat stage. In the last kilometres the pack broke in three parts. Meier, Peterson and Carlsen lost a couple of minutes just like Danielson who was fetching water for the boys. Nevertheless Dean, Vander Velde, Zabriskie and Pate were in the first group and saw a lot of competitors loose time. However it seems like Pate is going to loose the yellow yersey to Freire soon. He needs to gain only 2 more seconds in the sprints.

Stage 4: With a small hill two kilometres before the finishe line this proved to be an interesting finish. Dessel was the first one to attack followed by Vinokoerov and Pate. The last two were caught by the pack, but Dessel kept his lead and won the stage in a solo finish.

Stage 5: This stage was an exampt copy of the previous one with a small hill just before the finishe line. Siutsou, Zabriskie and Kern were the ones to get away. Zabriskie started the sprint from far and while Siutsou was caught back, Kern just passed Zabriskie on the finish line. Zabriskie gets a few seconds and is the new yersey holder.

Stage 6: With a serious climb and the finish uphill, this stage was set to be the dealbreaker. Pate attempted to get in a breakaway but failed in doing so. The pack wouldn't let him go. Voeckler was the first one to go into persuit of the breakaway of Sprick, Florencio, Pietropolli, El Fares and Sella at the start of the last climb. Pate tried to follow but couldn't catch Voeckler and fell back. Barredo, Moncoutie, Kern and Zabriskie went on for a counter attack. Barredo managed to get to the leading group, but could n't counter Voeckler. Zabriskie finished 8th. Enough to keep the yellow yersey.

Just go at 99% with everyone, it usually works on that short TT and for long ttts just put the secinds really high for good tt riders. I usually do fine.
