I didn't ever think I'd start a thread about track cycling, let alone participating in one. But with the introduction of track cycling in PCM, I've gradually started being more interested in it.
And since the World Championship is in Copenhagen, I'll go (like I did in 2002 when I had absolutely no idea of the rules...). I've bought tickets for Thursday and Saturday. Anyone else coming? |

aus v GB will be a great battle across the board, as will bobridge and phinney in the pursuit. i wonder how hoy will go, considering his lack of racing? |

As usual, it will be a huge shock if anyone beats Hoy. He has been training well and won the sprint in the recent Revolution event, beating the other Brits (commonly his main rivals now) aswell as a few Germans like Nimke - and his 200m time was sub 10 seconds.

As SN said, Hoy has been racing, just not on the world cup tour.
Bobridge vs Phinney, nah, it's going to be Thomas vs Phinney
Bobridge got the good time in the austrialian summer. Summer = Faster times. I'm still convinced Thomas would have the WR in Manchester if the guy he raced in the final didn't move up the boards rather than letting Thomas take a shorter route round him.

even if you take the temperature into account, it's still a very great time. I really don't think you can count any of the three out. I'd also throw jesse sergent and rohan dennis in with a shout at bronze if something goes very wrong for one of the big three. It could also depend on when the teams pursuit is, and how well bobridge and thomas back up from it. If the tp is before the ip, phinney has a massive advantage. |

Keisse's out with a broken collarbone. He crashed during training.
He seemed very, very strong in the Copenhagen 6-day race, so this is another huge blow to Belgium's chances of getting medals. |

He was Belgium's only real hope of a medal with Cornu out.

i think it's time for a few predictions...
sprint - hoy by a fair bit, with the french taking silver and bronze
keirin - hoy
kilo - not 100% sure who's riding it, i imagine a GB or french rider though. Scott sunderland is the dark horse.
team sprint - gb or france, australia bronze
points - meyer, a huge engine and tactically strong as well
IP - phinney, bobridge, phinney, bobridge.....I'm going to say bobridge, just because i'm australian
TP - Australia, ibobridge holds up, australia win. if he's not 100%, its gb or nz
scratch - i like the idea of travis meyer winning this one, but it's a pretty open field
madison - the danes will be keen to defend their rainbows on home soil, but meyer and howard will be too strong
omnium - phinney |

And what of the fact that Australia's PB this year is some 5 seconds slower than Britain?

Go Australia! Although i'd have to agree we are massive underdog in the TP. Hopefuly we pull off one win, and make sure USA and GB don't take out everything.

australia's pb was set without bobridge, GB's pb was set with Thomas. It's reversed this time though, and while it might not be a 5 second difference between the two, it's going to be very interesting. Also, hepburn has improved heaps in the last 4 months, it was his first elite international race when australia set that time. |

Having the best IP rider, doesn't nessesarily translate to having the best TP'er.

Thomas/Clancy/Burke/Swift set a time close to the time of Thomas/Clancy/Burke/Tennant. So the presumable line up of Clancy/Burke/Swift/Tennant should have no problemss
