Transfer news
Sony Ericsson has made it first and so far only signing in the transfer season, but it is impressive one. Alessandro Ballan, nicknamed Bontempino, joins the squad and will be the team's sole cobbled classic leader, taking on the fight with riders like Marcus Burghardt and Tom Boonen. He will also try to repeat his victory in the GP de Fourmies.
Three riders have been sold during the transfers; Crescenzo D'Amore to Quiksilver-Kraft, Dmitri Medvedev to Vesuvio-Accumalux and Jonas Bjelkmark to Team IKEA - Bianchi. We whishes them good luck with their new respecitve team.

Transfer news
In the last days of the transfers, Sony Ericsson did a important change of the roster by selling long time servant Sergio Ghisalberti to Lipton Ice Tea, to make room for the italian climber Marco Marzano from Carmeuse Cyclisme. Marzano will be the team's leader in Giro d'Italia where he will look to improve his 9th place from last season.

Fantastic start of the season
Just a slim 3 seconds from a complete super awesome comeback for Sony Ericsson, but instead a great second place behind Auber 93. Sebastian Lang, Freddy Johansson and Viktor Renäng was the main power behind the great start. Now it is up to Cameron Meyer, currently 8th in the GC with 4 second back, to prove himself worthy and claim stage win after stage win. That would be monster awesome.

Stage wins and leader's jerseys in Italy
Trofimov celebrates victory on stage four of Tirreno-Adriatico
Paride Grillo took the third stage of Tirreno-Adriatico after a blistering sprint which also gave him the leader's jersey, the first one for Sony Ericsson this season. The victory gave new strength to the team, especially Yuri Trofimov who on stage four attacked away on the steep climb up to Montelupone meaning that another stage win and leader's jersey number two was in the bag. After a fifth place in the TT, Trofimov now sits 29 seconds back on Taylor Phinney with two stages left.

The season's first and hardest goal achieved!
Trofimov wins his second stage and takes the leader's jersey
Those 29 seconds proved to be nothing for Trofimov who destroyed his opponents on stage sixth in Tirreno-Adriatico. Well, not maybe destroyed, but he won and took enough time on Taylor Phinney to retain the race lead which he held on to nicely with a fifth place on the last stage. Thanks to his consistent riding, he also won the point classification. Trofimov's next race will be the Criterium International.
Meanwhile in France, Marco Marzano is riding really well, currently third in the GC with one hard stage left. If he can hold onto this it would be a truly great performance by the italian.

4th times two
Marco Marzano didn't have the margins on his side on the last stage of Paris - Nice despite a great performance, where he managed to yet again keep it up with the best. Beeing in the lead group approaching the finish line, he took a chance and was leading the sprint with just a few meters left when Joaquin Rodriguez Oliver came zooming past taking the win. Marzano fell back to fourth, outside the bonus seconds which allowed Rodriguez Oliver to pass him in the GC with just one second. However 4th place is a very good result for Marzano and the team.
Walter Pedraza, inspired by the riding by Marzano and Trofimov, fought his way to a impressive second place behind Alejandro Valverde on the queen stage of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. This moved him to 4th in GC which he defended the remaining stages, ending a very successful start of the season for the Sony Ericsson team.

Triumph after triumph, where will this end?
Already performing exceptional well, Alessandro Ballan continued his great form by dominating the Ronde Van Vlaandren, winning it by over one minute to nearest competitor despite having a puncture while beeing in the lead. In Spain Yuri Trofimov have impressed by winning two stages and the overall in the Vuelta al Pais Vasco helping the team to increase it lead in the Pro Tour to 870 points.
The question is now how long this winning form will continue for Sony Ericsson? And will the team cope with the pressure of beeing the Pro Tour leaders going into the Grand Tour season? One thing is for sure, the team's goal of beeing Top 10 in the Team Standing seem to be very much in reach.
Peace

Apparently it ended with the Pro Tour crown!
It would be an understatement to say that main sponsor Sony Ericsson was pleased with publicity the cycling team managed to pull for the telephone company. The Pro Tour win was just the icing of the cake.
The sponsoring of the team was always a long-term deal for Sony Ericsson with focus on settling in the Pro Tour. That the success would come this early was unexpected although very satisfying. The aim will now be of course to try to defend the crown but the main focus is still to establish the team in the Pro Tour. To be able to do that, it is crucial that the future service of russian Yuri Trofimov is retained. He is, and will be the team's leader.
Alessandro Ballan future in the team is however more unsure. The experienced italian was together with Trofimov the main reason behind the success this season. And even though the sponsor would love to see Ballan one more year on the team, it will depend heavily on the price as the team look to reinforce its strengths in the mountains.

Transfer news
As Team Ikea Bianchi have folded, swedish rider Gustav Larsson have become available on the free agent market. In the past Sony Ericsson have tried but failed to sign the tall Swede as the price at the time became to high. Hopefully this time around it will be a different story as the Pro Tour Champs look to get Larsson's signature on paper in order to strengthen its time trial abilities. Only time will tell.

Renewals
Sony Ericsson have chosen to renew the contracts with every rider except Fredrik Johansson. We thank Fredrik for his time at Sony Ericsson and wishes him the best luck in the future.
Yuri Trofimov will remain the leader of the team being the largest reason why Sony Ericsson managed to clinch the Pro Tour title last season.
For the transfer season the team aims to strengthen its team time trial ability and swede Gustav Erik Larsson would be a perfect fit in the team filling this purpose.

The wages look really good considering the amazing season you had. I guess you have a real shot at keeping the Pro Tour crown

Yeah, many of the helpers got a pay cut so that helped and having some room left in the salery cap is nice. But to really try to keep the crown I need to get hold of some reinforcements, cause I don't think Ballan will do as well as last year especially consider he has been weakened.

Transfer Update
With the transfers soon coming to an end it is time to summarize Sony Ericsson's trades.
The first signing was made early in the transfers when swede Alexander Wetterhall was added to the roster. Wetterhall will be a great asset in the team time trials during the season.
In order to improve the team's ability in stage races, Bernard Kohl was acquired from UBS - La Pierre. He will be the team's leader in at least one of the Grand Tours and smaller stage races.
To make room for Kohl's wage demand, two riders had to leave the team, namely Italian Manuele Mori and Kazakh sprinter Assan Bazajev. The duo have been with the team for several seasons and will be missed. Mori is heading to Jayco - Red Bull and Bazajev to Pirelli - Alfa Romeo.
With Kohl's arrival the decision was made to make Marco Marzano available on the transfer market. VolksWagen - Siemens turned out to have the most appealing offer and Marzano was traded in a deal involving Robin van der Hugenhaben. Hugenhaben will act as a super domestique but hopefully also get his own chances in smaller stage races.
Lastly, French youngster Clement Chevrier was brought in as a stagiare. He is a talented climber who one day might excel in the mountains of the Tour de France.
Incoming Riders:
Alexander Wetterhall
Bernard Kohl
Robin van der Hugenhaben
Clement Chevrier (S)
Outgoing Riders:
Manuele Mori
Assan Bazajev
Marco Marzano
