2009 winner: Nick Nuyens
Nuyens won it last year but it looks like the ‘classic’ puncheurs will be the favorites today: Gilbert, Claeys, Monfort, Devolder, Hermans, Bakelants
6 riders got away in the main breakaway of the day, which had a maxim advantage of 8 minutes. The 6 riders were: Ista, Vandewalle, Van Avermaet, Vantomme, Sys and Vanthourenhout
Molteni and White Bear did an amazing job to bring the advantage to less than 1 minute with 30 km left even though the first team had a rider in the front group. With the escapes so close to be caught, Coenen made his move. He caught the escapes and left them behind one by one. It looked like going his way but he entered the last lap with an advantage of only 30 seconds in front of the pack
On the last hill of the day, Claeys attacked, followed closely by Devolder and Vandenbroeck. This attacks meant the end of Coenen’s adventure. Van Huffel, Monfort, Bankelants, Gilbert, Vanendert, Van Impe and Hermans also attacked from the pack
But neither of the first 3 attackers proved to be the strongest. It was Gilbert who entered the last 5 kilometers of the race in the lead
20 seconds behind him we had a chasing group with Monfort, Bakelants and Vanendert. They seem to be the only riders capable to stop Gilbert now as the next group, with the other attackers is almost one minute behind the AON Global rider
Bakelants leads the sprint behind Gilbert but neither of the 3 chasers seemed strong enough to catch the leader
Philippe Gilbert is the new Belgian Champion! Bakelants and Vanendert followed him on the podium

2009 winner: Dominique Cornu
The main favorite, Cornu, was one of the first riders and took an early lead, finishing the race in 1 hour 4 minutes and 46 seconds
De Gendt was one of the many riders from the 76 TT group that could have been a threat for Cornu, but he finished one minute and a half behind the Jack Wolfskin rider
Looking at Cornu’s time of over an hour, Hoste got quite a close time even though he lost almost 40 seconds
Vandenbrouck wasn’t really one of the riders that could have had big hopes at the begging of the day but he took a provisional 3rd place, beating De Gendt’s time with 3 seconds
Devolder was Cornu’s main opponent on paper but he rode to only the 3rd place, 10 seconds slower than Leif Hoste who finished second. As expected, Cornu managed to defend his title!
