Caracas, Venezuela, plays host to the 2010 World Championships - it offers up a mountainous road race course, and a hilly time trial route.
Team Time Trial
A new discipline to the World Championships, therefore making it an unpredictable event. Plenty of strong time trialists here, but which nation is best?

Under 23 Time Trial
Last years podium of Bouet, Pluchkin and De Gendt are all now too old to medal once again, so as you would expect in an Under 23 races, the favourites are all new. They includes the likes of Taylor Phinney, Martijn Keizer and Marcel Kittel - the latter opted not to ride Avenir this year.

Zabriskie is the defending champion and will start as favourite - particularly with Cancellara not present. The likes of Rogers and Coppel could threaten though, and it will be interesting to see just how well Continental TT king Dominique Cornu will fare.

Under 23 Road Race
With a mountainous course here and in Avenir, the French race will have been a dress rehearsal for this race. Henao Montoya will start as favourite then, while Phinney could be targeting double glory here in Caracas. Jose Alarcon is home favourite, but somewhat disadvantage in being the only Under 23 Venezuelan rider in the database. The likes of Keizer, Hacecky, Ratiy, Madrazo and Tenorio could all also feature.

Elite Road Race
Franco Pellizotti may hope to defend his title, but teammate Damiano Cunego will start as favourite for the race amongst an Italian team that will as ever, be amongst the strongest. Similarily strong will be Spain, with a less obvious leader - Intxausti? Contador? Gomez Marchante? Valverde?
Dekker, Uran, Frank Schleck, Brajkovic, Pluchkin and Fothen are amongst the other contenders - while Denis Menchov participates in his first road race of the season.

Some interesting line-ups there. The elite road race should be absolutely brutal. That distance with so much climbing. |

As far as Accumalux is concerned, Im hoping for a Top 10 from Intxausti in the time trial, and for both Intxausti and Schleck to ride well in the Road Race - I expect cyalogic to draft Pellizotti in for domestique duties

Top 5 in both young rider races for spain would be excellent, especially if combined with a strong showing for Spain in the elite road race and TTT.
Am also pleased that only 1 of my selections was ignored

No selection was ignored
The votes of the selecters were tallyed up, and the most popular choices made the selection into the race.

With Cunego in the Italian team that makes perfect sense
I'd say a second place for Rogers (with Dave Z in first) and a victory for Cunego?
Nah, probably asked too much. We'll see, but at least I have two favourites. |

I have to wonder why Igor Antón is on the spanish team when Carlos Castaño is not :-S
FL MO HI DH TT END RES REC COB SPR ACC FIG
73 80 76 70 74 74 78 77 54 61 77 75
69 79 74 62 71 73 77 76 51 53 77 75
Castaño being the numbers in the top. Notice that not ONE single stat of Antón is better than Castaño's.

The victory in Under 23 RR would make me pleased along with a top 10 in the TT of the same category. |

Its quite simple. From the Spanish selectors, Intxausti, Valverde, Gomez Marchante and Plaza received 3 votes; S Sanchez, Contador, Rodriguez Oliver, Gil and Anton received 2 votes; Castano, Mancebo, Pereiro, Mayo and Perez Fernandez received 1 vote.
9 riders received 2 or more votes, so those 9 make the team - and you cant complain, because you chose not to be a selector.

That was the selection I got wrong, I think Fenian and SN were the other selectors so they must have both backed Anton
EDIT: SN beat me to it listen to him

All to do with who the selectors pick.
For example, I nominated Mayo because I was impressed with some of the big turns he put in at the front throughout this season in a support role. Didn't make it in though. |

I don't believe I did complain, I only asked how it could be. And I have misunderstood the selector part.
I though ONE guy would be selector of each country, and not several. So I thought that someone had selected Antón because either 1) He hadn't noticed Castaño or 2) He had Antón in his team.
And it's fine by me, as he wouldn't do anything in the race anyway.

Nope, as clearly stated in the post itself - not only for this years worlds, but last years aswell - there can be more than 1 selector per country, and the more there are, the better

I take that as a dig at me.
Yes, my selection criteria for middling-bad domestiques (ie my Wiggle riders) normally revolve around if they are my riders or not, but when it comes to the big nations, with big names, I try to pick the best riders.
However, in future I will ensure I never pick any of your riders. That way no mistake or bad claims can be made, and I can make sure I live upto your expectations.
In other news, I'm very happy to have Nocentini riding as a domestique for a very strong Italian line up. Here's to hoping the Italianoes can do something.

I want Valjavec to win or deliver Brazjovic to the win
Raisin won't do anything, and neither will Rast |

I have three captains here: Dekker, Rolland and Bak (although the latter is on the control team ... ). Hopefully, Dekker can surprise me at this race.
And either way, it's going to be a very interesting RR. Love the profile |

My big hopes are for the time - trials there, with Reus and De Kort in probably the strongest team for the TTT, while Cornu will hopefully be in top 5 in the individual race
