16 laps of 10 kilometers each form the route of this race which counts with some well-known hilly specialists. So, it will be interesting to see how they perform today. And with the season closing to its final, every point is crucial in order to dream with the promotion or with an accomplished season goal.
Gomes Colinas, Turano, Murphy, Sarkisov, Friedman and Coutts make the breakaway today.
Dupont, Van Avermaet, Howes and Cunha are able to join them.
Kavsek and Cioni also bridge to this group while Howes gets a gap on the same, but he would be caught shortly after.
Kenda and M&M control the race. With 100km to the finish, the gap is 4'30''.
Koren attacks with 85km to go.
And he raises to 3 the number of Starbucks riders in the front group. 56km - 3'10''.
BMC and Kenda shorten the gap to a minute and a half with 30km left to ride.
Sensing the peloton, Cunha, Coutts, Van Avermaet and Gomes Colinas attack the breakaway and form a group.
19km to go and Visconti attacks!
Kiserlovski, Vorganov and Terciado also try to escape, while some of the breakaway riders are being caught.
Time for Astarloa, Wegmann, Bru Pascal, Raisin and Saldarriaga to leave the peloton. In the front, the four recent attackers join with the other four who attacked the breakaway.
But the peloton catches everyone with 12km to go.
Well, not everyone. Vorganov and Terciado hold an advantage of 35 seconds.
In a flat part, 9km to go, Leukemans, Wegmann, Rabon and Gomes Colinas attack.
Vicioso, Efimkin, Seeldrayers and Saldarriaga attack when Gomes Colinas is being caught.
More moves! This time it's Visconti along with Kiserlovski and Astarloa.
No more climbing with 5km to go. Rabon was the strongest in the uphill and he's being directly chased by Wegmann and Efimkin.
Rabon keeps his lead but the chase has changed. After a handful of new attacks, Kiserlovski is the second in the road followed by Seeldrayers.
Behind, Efimkin is leading Wegmann, Leukemans, Astarloa, Visconti and Vicioso. Vorganov, Saldarriaga and Terciado are near.
Rabon leads in the entrance of the last two kilometers.
And he holds the lead until the finish, he wins Univest Grand Prix!
Solid second for Kiserlovski and amazing performance by Seeldrayers to take the third place (he sure benefited of the lazyness of the pursuiting group which was just following Efimkin). Wegmann is the best of the rest.
