Straight off the back of the first mountains stage, we head into a hilly stage with a particularly steep final hill
Lots of attackers early on led to a 16 man group that include Lo Cicero - so he easily took the early sprint
A break of 9 was to clear though: Guerao, Locatelli, Wallays, Blythe, Van Den Eynde, Allain, Passalacqua, Weiss, Reckweg
Shortly before the next intermediate sprint, Reckweg has gotten a gap on the others
The sprint is uncontested - even for 2nd - but shortly after, Locatelli has gotten across to Reckweg - no attacking, just ridden across.
This unusual behaviour can probably be attributed to a high wind, but these 2 do not pull away, 5 of the other 7: Weiss, Blythe, Passalacqua, Van Den Eynde and Wallays keep close. The gap at one stage got to a minute but was pulled back down to 30 seconds
Onto the first climb, Locatelli takes it but Reckweg is dropped and caught by the chasers
In attacking for 2nd, Wallays was able to bridge to Locatelli. Making it easier for the Belgian to then win the next KoM
Now time for the toughest hill of the day, its 8km long, and at the foot of it Rovny attacks
Phinney goes with them as they thread through the break, catching Locatelli and Wallays. Rovny wrong chooses to relax for a moment, and Phinney presses on without him
A few had tried to counter them, but made little impact, but as the gradient hits 11%, Alarcon attacks, bringing a new wave of action to the climb
As Rovny continues to get back on terms with Phinney, a group of 4 forms behind him: Kunshin, Alarcon, Van Garderen and Henao Montoya
Van Stayen, Hacecky and Mai are also ahead of the peloton, which Madrazo now attacks from
Phinney is climbing well, and now pulling away from Rovny once again
Rovny soon has company - with Van Garderen and Henao Montoya catching him
Phinney tops the climb first
50 seconds later are Henao Montoya, Van Garderen, Rovny, Alarcon and Kunshin
Hacecky crosses 2 minutes behind Phinney, but 20 seconds ahead of Van Stayen
Madrazo is 2'50 behind Phinney, and just ahead of Mai
Keizer crosses with Ratiy and Granjel Cabrera, 3'30 behind the race leader
The question for the main 5 man chase group now is, can Phinney be caught?
Kunshin attacks the group!
The Russian gets a gap, and is now just 33 seconds behind Phinney
But Phinney continues to descend well, not looking for anyone to catch him
5km to go. Phinney leads Kunshin by 40 seconds, with the other 4 lead chasers a further 20 seconds back
He isnt going to be caught, so Taylor Phinney wins his 2nd consecutive stage!
Kunshin is caught in the final kilometre as Van Garderen sprints past for 2nd ahead of Henao Montoya - 30 seconds behind Phinney
Alarcon lost contact late on, and loses a minute to Phinney
Hacecky, Van Stayen and Madrazo all finish solo, and all about 20 seconds further behind Phinney than they were at the top of the hill
Mai takes 10th, 3'49 behind Phinney, finishing with Keizer who had dropped Raity and Granjel Cabrera - the Cuban instead leading in the peloton just behind them
