After a couple of days for the sprinters, we now head to the hills
Plenty of early attacks, but we were only to see 3 in the lead group: Diggle, Fouquet and Vermeltfoort
Fouquet takes the KoM midway through the stage, Vermeltfoort takes the jersey, and Diggle doesnt care
Its the same order for the intermediate sprint soon after
Their lead is around 2 minutes with under 30km to go - when an odd move comes from race leader Romain Vanderbiest: he attacks
The sprinter is not generally a good climb, but he is giving it a go, passing Fouquet who has been dropped from the break, still closing on the lead 2 with 13km to go
His team is folding at the end of the year, so looking for a contract, Tejay Van Garderen leads the attacks
Its a short hill, and while the American passes the break into the lead, theres only 1 successful counterattack, and Rovny can only get as far as Diggle, Vermeltfoort and Vanderbiest
More attacks as we approach the final hill up to the line, includign Phinney, Granjel Cabrera and Henao Montoya
Van Garderen still looks good in the lead though
Into the final kilometre, Rovny, Phinney and Henao lead the chase
But its the stage and jersey for Van Garderen!
Rovny takes 2nd, 45 seconds later, ahead of Henao Montoya and Phinney
Granjel Cabrera and Dees are next, with Luke Rowe and Steensen rounding the turn with the rest of the peloton hot on their heels
