The first stage is hilly, but not very hilly. Still, today's is the first to GC favourites to perform.

Rénier and Eastman escape from the peloton to form the BOTD.

The duo is caught with 31km to go. By this time, Jack Wolfskin is also helping in the peloton which will have to recover 2 minutes and 10 seconds to the early breakaway riders.

Weening catches the first group that lost riders on the hill. By this time, only 8 riders plus Weening are there: Rénier, Eastman, Tang, Last, Pires, Remme, Albert and Sohrabi, but Vande Velde and Franzoi would join after. 14km to go and the gap to the peloton is around a minute.

Danielson takes the lead of the first group and Last, Pires, Franzoi, Sohrabi, Vande Velde and Eastmen are immediately dropped.
i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww77/untal16/AugustManGame2010/PCM0012-7.jpg

The gap to the peloton doesn't decrease and, with 4km to go, Weening is in Danielson's wheel.

The sprint opens and Danielson still leads.

Albert is passing Danielson in the entrance of the last kilometer.
