Once the break had been caught, surely all was next would be a mass sprint. CIolek and Bos would miss the sprint as they crashed on the wet road abetween 20 and 10km from the finish, 1 or 2 other riders crashed too.
Caisse d'Epargne led the sprint as Unibet's Erwin Thijs and Quick Steps' Bram Tankink lost control on a tight wet corner
Chaos followed:
With is head in the barriers, Cancellara did not look good but he was not the only big name down. Some of the others who went down in the mass crash included: Kessler, Karpets, Sacchi, Dekker, Boogerd, Di Luca, Nibali, Ballan, Piepoli, Devolder, Breschel, Hincapie, Voeckler, Bruseghin, Nuyens, and Florencio.
So many big names meant a lot of teams slowed, which ultimately meant that there were no time losses - there were 3 casualties though who had to abandon: Kessler, Karpets and Sacchi. Anyway back to the sprint. As seen in the picture of Thijs' downfall Markov is leading Richeze and Petacchi. O'Grady, Nazon and Cooke are also there and once again poor positioning has struck Boonen.
Richeze made his move too early leaving Petacchi up front, noone could challenge him so:
