Due to technical difficulties for Deadpool I will be doing Stage 1, with him taking over for the rest of the race.

And for this opening stage, the verdict is very much flat. The Chinese race is up in altitude, and there is actually a strong field of climbers here despite the race's past record as unpredictable and breakaway dominated.

Speaking of breakaways, here is today's.

Fuglsang, Blaudzun, Sawada, Grychenko, Merino Criado, and Rollin

Rollin took the days only intermediate sprint

While the KoM goes to Grychenko. With 19km to go, the break leads by just 1'20.

But by 10km to go the break is fighting, the gap still hovering around a minute

Behind them though there is a crash!

14 riders down, most notably Glomser, Siedler, Alex Efimkin and Colom.

The break are nearly caught, but Grychenko attacks away for 1 last attempt to survive

But his time up front ends with 2km to go, as his Mongolian teammate Tuulhangai sprints past him and into the lead

Poised behind the Mongolian is Corioni, and here goes the Italian

The threat is Australian, with Goss and Thorsen looking to challenge

But Goss can only match Corioni as Thorsen fades behind Duque, and Claudio Corioni wins Stage 1 of the Qinghai Lake Tour.
