Welcome to the queen stage of GP Torres Vedras! This third stage ends in Alto de Montejunto and anyone who wants the overall win has to perform here and now. Vorganov has the yellow jersey after upseting the odds in the first. Today, all the odds are against him. Will he upset them again?
Peeters is the first in the opening intermediate sprint. Soler and Bazajev also take points while Markov is just the 4th. Striska and Cappelle also are in front of the pack but they will have to work if they want to join with the front.
In another fight for a few points, Markov is the winner. Peeters and Bazajev also score some. By this time, Striska and Cappelle had already joined.
And Markov manages to win the last one in front of Striska and Bazajev.
Nespresso, Wiggle, AON Global and Sony Ericsson join forces in order to catch the breakaway. With 67km to go, 4'50''.
Few kilometers after, Nazaret and Shpilevski try to escape, despite the fact that the peloton has a fast tempo.
The first ascent starts and, imemediately, Soler drops the other breakaway riders.
Nazaret and Shpilevski are caught with 5km to the top thanks to the strong chase performed by Ponzi as soon as the climb started.
Soler quickly gains a minute and a half over Markov, Cappele and Bazajev (the others are even far back) and, therefore, the Colombian is the first over the mountain sprint.
Soler is riding fast. With 25km to go, he has an advantage of 3'25'' over the peloton.
With 17km to go, Proni attacks. The road has already risen and Soler's advantage is about 2 minutes and a half.
Bertagnolli, Anza, Kessler and Bru Pascal try to escape!
And Vorganov has to go! Perez Cuapio, Rabon and Costa follow him.
With 10km to go, Kessler has an advantage over the rest. But Soler still has 1 minute and 20 seconds over him.
With 6km to the end, Soler has 49'' over Kessler who is losing ground to Bertagnolli, as only 15 seconds separate them.
15 seconds is also the gap between Bertagnolli and a 7-man group, composed by Costa, Rabon, Vorganov, Bru Pascal, Perez Cuapio, Anza and Proni.
The group is losing ground so they feel that attacking each other may be the best option.
Soler enters in the last kilometer with a 12 seconds advantage over Kessler. Can he take the win?
He takes it! Incredible effort by Soler who, despite riding solo by many kilometers, took the win. Kessler is second and he's hoping to have the yellow jersey, but Vorganov isn't far.
It seems that attacking option was really the best as they close the gap to Bertagnolli, who is third. Rabon is the best of the rest, as he takes the fourth place. Vorganov is here, arriving at almost 20 seconds after Kessler, which means that Vorganov keeps the yellow jersey!
Bru Pascal lost contact with the group, losing a few seconds, but still closing the top 10. Ribeiro wins the sprint in the peloton.
