The final mountain stage, expect things to be shaken up.
6 men escaped early on to attempt the Hors Category climb first. At the top, the break was down to 2:
de la Fuente and Szymd.

The peleton split in the descent:
Kashechkin, Gadret and Perez Sanchez joined Vinokourov and his helpers. They kept ahead over the next climb (1. De la Fuente, 2. Syzmyd, 3. Carrarra, 4. Barredo, 5. Gadret) until they were finally caught.
Carrarra and Barrdeo were caught shortly after and Szymyd led de la Fuente over the top.

Levi Leipheimer attacked over the top and kept the attack going, in pursuit of De la Fuente and Szymyd.
The pack split again in the descent, here is the 2nd group:
Savoldelli, Dekker and Devolder were the 3 top 10 riders struggling, other riders who were in the 2nd group included Karpets, Cardenas, Gutierrez Catalana and Rodriguez Oliver. 10th overall David Moncoutie was worse off though and was even further behind.

They came together in the Col de Marie Blanque. And there was chaos for part of it. Nobody seemed to wantg to chase Leipheimer who was now over 3 minutes ahead.
The gap came down nevertheless and an attack by Vinokourov gave him a slight advantage as the group began to split even before the top of the climb.

Despite having his worst day yet, Dekker extended his youth classification lead to 20 minutes over Maxim Iglinski.
With strong performances from Schleck, Mancebo and Gil, plus the very poor Cofidis performances, we have a new teams classification leader since Cofidis took it from Unibet in the first mountain stage: Saunier Duval.
They have a 9 minute lead over 2nd placed Cofidis and a 38 minute lead over 3rd placed T-Mobile - and T-Mobile started the pyrenees just 2 minutes behind Saunier.
