Giro del Trentino - Stage 4
alexkr00
The last stage is also the queen one as it finishes with a quite hard climb. As yesterday, Pedraza, Carrara and Taaramae as rated as the big favorites but all of them are out of the GC fight at the moment. It's going to be a really interstentig stage with Nocentini, 2nd in the GC at the moment, registered with the same time as the leader Lloret. Nicacio is also quite close so we should see an opened battle for the final win in Giro del Trentino 2010.
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0001-15.jpg

There are 11 riders in today's breakaway, which was made after the long opening downhill:Rooijakkers, Blaudzun, Leukemans, Hicks, Gallego Martin, Devenyns, Perez Arrieta, Lungberg, Oste - Macdonald, Stoltz and Remme
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0003-12.jpg

Since Lloret is the new leader of the race after yesterda's stage AirAsia are the most interested team to bring the escapes back and they were helped in the first half of the race by Vespa and M&M
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0004-11.jpg

None of the escapes was interested in the intermediate sprint, which was one by Blaudzun in front of the 2 Santander riders
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0005-8.jpg

The escapes started the first categorized climb of the day with an advantage of 7 minutes over the pack. But this climb looks to be even harder than the finishing one so it's a long way to the top of it
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0006-9.jpg

AirAsia are still somewhere at the front of the pack, but with Wiggle and Energie Diesel more interested now in bringing the escapes back
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0007-8.jpg

Blaudzun was clearly the weakest climber in the breakaway and halfway to the top he lost the contact with his breakaway mates
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0010-6.jpg

4 km before the top of the climb another escapes cracked. It was Stoltz
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0014-6.jpg

Rooijakkers was the only one interested in the KoM points and with the points won here he will have no problems defending his jersey on the last climb
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0018-4.jpg

Stoltz already lost one minute and a half to the leading group so he has no chance to get back in it
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0022-3.jpg

2 minutes after him Blaudzun arrives
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0025-2.jpg

1 minute behind the Dane champion the pack comes. Pretty nice job by the teams that are leading it as they won somewhere around 2 minutes on this climb over the escapes
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0026-6.jpg

On the donwhill that followed the pack caught their first escape, a dead Blaudzun
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0029-4.jpg

50 kilometers before the finish the escapes still have an advantage of 4 minutes so with a bit of luck one of them might get away on the last climb
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0032-1.jpg

Meanwhile Stoltz was also brought back in the pack
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0035-1.jpg

The escapes reach the first slopes of the final climb with 35 km before the end of it. They lost in the last 15 km almost one minute to the pack
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0036-5.jpg

Wiggle, Energie Diesel and Air Asia are doing a great job at the front of the pack to bring the gap between them and the escape to only 2 minutes before the final 20 kilometers
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0039-5.jpg

One of the important names, Justo Tenorio, has a puncture and no one from his team - mates waits for him. It's going to be quite hard to get back in the pack
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0042-2.jpg

Oste - Macdonald is leading the breakaway group as the real climb starts with 16 km before the finish. They have only one minute and a half left from their advantage so they have basicaly no chance to survive
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0050-3.jpg

Behind them Kiserlovski makes the first big attack of the day
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0052-2.jpg

He was followed by Astarloza, Gustov and Larsson
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0054-1.jpg

They soon joined the breakaway group but that just made the escapes start their own attacks
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0059-1.jpg

Oste - Macdonald was clearly the strongest climber in the leading group and he got away from the others
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0060-1.jpg

He is the first ride to reach the final 10 kilometers of the race
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0062.jpg

He is followed by a group with Larsson, Roojakkers, Hicks and Lundberg
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0070-2.jpg

Astarloza, Gustov and Kiserlovski are leading the third group but the pack isn't far behind them
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0074-1.jpg

They managed to catch the second group but they were imediately caught by the pack. Gustov, Kiserlovski, Astarloza and Larsson attacked again in that moment
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0075.jpg

This time they were followed by more riders. The first ones were Lloret and Nicacio
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0079-1.jpg

Oste - Macdonald seems to be getting tired and he is caught
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0083.jpg

Nocentini is also coming with Ghisalberti behind them and they are very close to join the leading group as well as Nicacio and Lloret, which in fact happened only a few moments later
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0087-1.jpg

Even though they were the lasts came in the group, Nocentini and Ghisalberti, prove to be way stronger that the others and they get away
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0091.jpg

Larsson is leading the chase but many of the other riders were brought back in the pack
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0094.jpg

Nocenti is leading in the last kilometer with Ghisalberti right in his wheel
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0096-1.jpg

They are followed by 7 men group with Nicacio, Mercado, Lloret, Kiserlovksi, Noval, Gustov and Larsson. Lloret is in real trouble to lost the overall victory to Nocentini as at the start of the day they were separated by less than one second
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0098.jpg

Nocentini won a sprint yesterday but it looks like he will lose the win today to Ghisalberti. Still with the 2nd place bonifications he will be sure that he's the overall winner
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0101.jpg

Ghisalberti gets away from Nocentini and nothing can stop him now
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0104-1.jpg

And it's a win for the Sony Ericsson rider! Which means that they got 2 stage wins here, same as Wiggle. No other team got a stage win here
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0107-1.jpg

Nocentini is second but as Lloret is not even close to him, he is the new winner of Giro del Trentino!
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0111.jpg

Lloret finished 39 seconds behind him and Ghisalberti in the chasing group lead by Mercado and Nicacio
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0115.jpg

Noval and Gustov lost the contact with the chasing group in the final kilometer but they managed to finsih a few seconds before the pack did
