After not a great 2009 season, Cofidis lost their Pro Tour license and they are now classified as Pro Continental Team. So now with the team not going to all the Pro Tour events we can spend more time in France and focus on our races, specially Le Tour de France, where he have to fight for an wild - card if we want to participate now.
Getting an invitation to the Tour de France is actually one of our 6 main sponsors goals. The other 5 goals also involve only France races as it can be seen in the following picture:
At the moment we have in our team most of the French elite climbers. And that could help us a lot this season in our pursuit for UCI points and to achive some goals as well, since 2 of our goals are to wear the 'King of the Mountains jersey' in Criterium International and to actually win the jersey later in the season in Dauphine Libere.
The other 3 goals involve the general classifications of the races. If we want to make our sponsors happy and bring us more money for the upcoming seasons we need to make a least a top 5 in Tour du Haut Var and Tour Mediterraneen and probably the hardest of all, win 4 Jours de Dunkerque.
The Leaders
Moncoutie is definitely at the moment the best French climber and also our strongest climber and rider. He's quite old and this could be one of his last seasons at a big level in cycling so he might want to end his career with some strong performances in Le Tour de France. His goal for Le Tour is to win the polka dot jersey and maybe if he has the chance a stage win. One month earlier hopefully he will also ride in Dauphine Libere with the same goals.
Usually the Colombian riders are very strong climbers. Well Duque is a nice climber but his main speciality are the sprints. He has been one of the most constant sprinter in Le Tour de France in the past years always finishing right behind the big names. Hopefully this year his luck will change and he might even grab a win in cycling's biggest race.
Probably our most talented young gun is Rein Taaramae. Aged only 22, Rein is already the national champion of Estonia on both road race and time - trial. This season is going to be a very important one in his development as in July he might get the chance to ride Le Tour de France
Our expert in breakaways in the first week of the Tour is Auge. Even though he is quite old Stephane can still keep it up with his younger rivals. He's an excellent fighter and also a nice puncheur which might bring him and us the polka dot jersey for a few days during Le Tour if he will get in the right breakaway
After a few years riding for the other French teams at the end of the 2008 season signed for Cofidis and rode for us in 2009. His biggest performance was in the Tour, where he finished second in the Andora stage, also getting to wear the polka dot jersey for a stage. This year he will probably try to do even better than that.
Kevyn Ista is one of our new comers. As Agritubel quit cycling at the end of the 2009 season he need a new contract and he got it at Cofidis. He is our leader for the northen classics but because he is pretty much our only cobbles rider he won't get too ride in those races as we are not going to sign up for too many races like that. Still Tro Bro Leon and Paris - Roubaix are 2 of the most important races for us so we should see him there doing his best.

January Calendar
The January calendar is full with Aussie races but we aren't going to ride any of them as 2 are the National Championships and the third one is Tour Down Under and we didn't apply for an wild - card.
But still we wanted to ride in January so we are going to start our season in Argentina, with Tour de San Luis.

We've sent for San Luis a team made by climbers, lead by Taaramae. Kern also looks strong and he could always become the leader but there's also an ITT, which pretty much made Taarame the favorite in front of him.
Ista is going to represent us in the sprints. Even though he isn't the greatest sprinter in the World he is in a nice shape at the moment.
Saxo Bank are riding here and they brought Fuglsang, so he is the guy to watch, but hopefully one of our riders will be able to beat him.
11. R.Taaramäe
12. J.El Fares
13. K.Ista
14. C.Kern
15. A.Moinard
16. R.Zingle

Tour de San Luis - Stage 1
There was a great fight at the early climb of the day, as it was the only one of the day. El Fares was very close to win it, but he was beaten by Muller
Some of the riders that were in the leading group at the summit made the breakaway of the day, but not El Fares as he didn't see in this stage an oportunity for a stage win
Even though that with 10 kilometers, one of the escapes was still in front, the preparations for the mass sprint started in the pack, with Ista following the Colavita train
In front, leading the race it's the same Muller who beat El Fares earlier in the stage in their fight for the KoM points
Great decision by Ista to follow the Colavita train as it's the fastest of the day
With 4 kilometers left from the stage, Muller is almost caught by the Colavita train
And the sprint starts with Muller being finally caught by the pack. It's over for him
Soon Borrajo was left alone in front by Haedo and Ista is in a perfect position now
As they reached the final kilometer, Ista is trying to pass him but it's going to be quite hard
Ista isn't able to take the lead there and he also loses the second virtual place to Fred Rodriguez
It's going to be a close one as both Rodriguez and Barbosa caught Borrajo
And it's Rodriguez who wins the first stage of Tour de San Luis. Ista just 5th in the end, but still a nice result for him

well 79 mountain and a better recovery would have made him a GT favorite which I don't think he is.

Tour de San Luis - Stage 2
No one was able to get away from the pack until the penultimate climb of the day, where Moinard got away.
He stayed for an while in front, but he was caught right at the summit because of the attacks for the KoM points
On the last climb Pires made the first move with 10 kilometers to go
He was followed by a few riders but none of them being real favorites
Kern and Golcer attacked a little bit later
And they easily joined the earlier attackers in the leading group
Fuglsang, Sinkewitz and Sevilla are also trying to join the group as it's not far away from the pack
As well as Blanco and Taaramae
They all managed to join the group but they are all brough back in the pack a few moments later
Still Blanco was a little bit stronger than the others and tried a new attack. This could be the decisive move
Jufre joined him after a few minutes. They already have almost one minute in front of the pack with less than 5 kilometers left
Behind them Kern broke away from the pack
And with 2.5 kilometers before the summit he is very close to join the leading group
But he wasn't strong enough to do that and it's going to be between Blanco and Jufre for today's stage and the yellow jersey
Kern is in the third position as he reaches the last kilometers but the chasers, lead by Fuglsang, aren't far away
Jufre is trying everything he can but Blanco seems able to hang on
And it's Blanco who takes the stage and the yellow jersey
Great performance by Kern finishing third
Not a good day for Taaramae though. He finished in the pack only on the 15th place

Tour de San Luis - Stage 3
Ista is in a quite good shape at the moment and he surprised everyone with an excellent early time
He was beaten for 6 seconds by the big favorite of the day, Vandborg
Del Nero had a nice result but still 15 seconds behind Vandborg
Taaramae was one of the favorites for this time - trial but the bad early season shape made him lose 33 seconds to Vandborg today
Vicioso had a nice result losing less than half a minute and he will probably keep his 5th place overall
Fuglsang was the big favorite to win Tour de San Luis this year he isn't even on the podium at the moment and the TT isn't going to change that
Kern isn't a TT specialist but after a great ride by him he managed to keep his place on the podium
Blanco had a great ride today but didn't get the win finishing 3rd behind Vandborg and Ista but still he consolidated his lead and he is now the big favorite to win Tour de San Luis 2010
