Hilly rated, and Nocentini, Kirchen and Wegmann are the favourites.
Here's the break: Petacchi, Glomser, Kupfernagel, Briggs, Beppu, Cappelle, Grippo and Sutton
They were joined by Eastman, Bongiorno, Downing, Abdallah, Coutts and Gallopin
The gap was up to 4 minutes by 90km to go, and at this point Zirbel attacked the peleton. A very impressive ride saw him catch the break in just over 10km
With 68km to go, Rovny and Kiserlovski lead attacks from the pack with Pancake, Duret and Kunitski following
It seems Rovny only fancied testing his legs though, as some of his teammates continued relaying
Just as the 5 looked set to be caught, Kiserlovski and Pancake attacked again. Theyve effectively sacrificed a teammate each in order to get rid of Rovny
That doesnt stop the pack chasing though and this little move ends with 47km to go. By now the breaks lead is barely over a minute, and the BMC pair of Zirbel and Eastman are being forced to do a fair bit of work
35km to go, Proni attacks - despite being on a 2% descent - and Wegmann follows
They get clear, so Nocentini follows
As Wegmann goes past the break, causing some of them to counter, Bertagnolli makes his move as we reach a climb
Rabon follows, and now Bernucci and Kirchen
Up front we can see Wegmann having a gap over the next group - a mix of attackers and breakaway, Nocentini leads it as Zirbel attempts to come across to his teammate
Now it is Vansummeren, Roche and another Vespa rider making the bridge from the pack
Theres over 20 riders in the front now but they are slightly behind Wegmann and Zirbel. But BMC get too greedy as Eastman also tries attacking across and the groups merge together
Ben Nasser is the last to have gotten to the front on that particular climb - the front group is 26 strong
British hope Tom Diggle hopes to make that 27, with Van Avermaet also just behind him
New hill, new attacks from the pack - Martin and Weening
Rovny, Sobal and Tonti also follow and they reach the front group - passing Diggle and Van Avermaet who remain in pursuit
Ben Nasser attacks! He is the first rider to make a 2nd move, and should have plenty of energy having gotten in to the front group when the gap between it and the pack was at its lowest
Sensing danger, Kirchen and Wegmann counter
As does Nicholas Roche
And while Wegmann and Kirchen catch Ben Nasser, Roche carries on into the lead
Hard work is needed to keep gaps though, and as Rabon attacks, Wegmann, Kirchen and Ben Nasser are caught - although Ben Nasser tries to follow the Czech, and Vansummeren and Martin also attack the pack
A slender lead for Roche with 10km to go
Rabon, Vansummeren and Martin are chasing
And the next group is still close, with Ben Nasser trying and failing to get out of it
It is barely a 10 second lead for Roche but he is holding it
Wegmann tries another attack on a descent, but this time the gradient is too much to allow him to get away
Wiggle dominate the front of the pack as we enter the final 5km, it all remains so close
Roche is giving it all, his lead only 12 seconds, but remaining stable
Vansummeren will leadout Rabon with Martin tucked in - Rabon is a much stronger sprinter than Roche, and better than Martin aswell
The sprint behind has started, with Wiggle and BMC on front
Roche enters the final kilometre, the 3 behind still have yet to sprint
Bertagnolli and Ben Nasser make their moves around the inside as they also head into the final KM - is 5th their best bet or can they close the gaps at the last?
Now Rabon goes! Martin looks to follow
Rabon seems a little strong from Martin and the gap is closing on Roche!
He moves alongside him now as the line nears
Frantisek Rabon wins the GP of Wales! 2nd for Dan Martin, with Nicholas Roche ending 3rd
That was a genious piece of tactics from Team NOS - sprint too early and while catching Roche, Martin could have benefited longer from a sprinting Rabon's slipstream - sprint too late and Roche would have taken it - they got it just right.
Vansummeren holds on for 4th, while Ben Nasser wins the sprint for 5th
The sprinters from the original breakaway upset the puncheurs after him though, Bongiorno takes 6th ahead of Sutton and Petacchi before Wegmann and Bertagnolli
