Dauphine Libere Stage 5
Today is not likely to be decisive - but the opportunity is there for some of the riders chasing the GC to gain some time.
Four riders manage to get away - the gap goes out to around 8 minutes before the pack starts to reel them in.
There is bad news for Festina as Castano goes down in a crash. The good news for them is that it's before the pace rises and he's able to get back to the pack without much difficulty.
Soon after, Stage 3 winner Vandborg punctures and he does not manage to get back.
And so, to the final climb of the day. At the bottom, it's Redondo who looks strongest from the break. However with the main bunch just over a minute behind, he really has no chance of stage victory.
There are far too many attacks on the way up to try and document - so let's hook in to the camera on the summit and see who comes over first and in what order.
First is Popovych, and with him Dekker and Gesink.
Then it's Fothen and Gadret. Just behind this pair is Di Luca and Intxausti.
Next up we have a foursome. Kohl, Gomez Marchante, Serpa and Phinney.
There are definite gaps between the groups, but inexplicably the leading riders take no chances and by the time we are at the foot of the descent a group of 15 has formed, including Festina man Castano and Wii Racing's Brajkovic, both of who were a good way back going over the summit.
In fact the pace in this lead group is so slow that as we approach the final 2k the peloton has even made it back up to them.
All that is really left to discover is who will win the sprint. Popo is on the front and Dekker is poised behind him in the perfect position.
1000 meters to go. Dekker is trying to come through - we've seen Popo win in this position before. Who's going to be the stronger?
I'm afraid there can only be one. And today it is Dekker! Popo settles for second and Di Luca gets third.
60+ riders are credited with the same time as the stage winner, including Coppel who gets to spend an unexpected further day in the leaders jersey.
