12 men went on the attack today:

Astarloa, Millar, Brard, Wiggins, Cummings, Figueras, Drujon, Haselbacher, Verbist, Arvesen, Gritters, and Van Avaermart.

In the hills they all split up with Astarloa, Figueras and Arvesen breaking away. They were followed by a british trio of Cummings, Millar and Wiggins and after them came the rest.

This did not matter though as Quick Step and T-Mobile were eager for a sprint finish. So eager infact, that they dropped Boonen along the way. So, without Boonen, t he sprint is now wide open. But before the sprint, its the event that comes on every flat stage: A crash containing a rider high up in the general classification. Today it's Arroyo's turn.

Arvesen messed up the corner and practically landed on Arroyo's wheel, Arroyo inevitably went down. The Astana boys took part in synchronised falling while Matthieu Sprick (Bouygues) was the only rider forced to abandon.

In the sprint, Discovery where the obvious choice as they had David leading out Hushovd, although FDJ were eager for O'Grady to shine. T-Mobile seemed to have messed up Petacchi's hopes - or would they just prefer it if McEwen didnt win, as they know McEwen can easily pass Petacchi.

Anyway, none of the riders mentioned above won it, congratulations to:
