The final stage, and the hills could yet have an affect on the GC
There was originally a break of 3 with 1 chaser, but Powers caught up Flickinger, Striska and Tuulhangai 3km to the summit of the first climb
With 16 pts to Trofimov's 26, Powers could be eyeing up the KoM jersey with 15 pts on offer. But he could only manage 3rd as Flickinger attacks to take full pts, himself starting on 10 pts today
Flickinger again took the 2nd climb, Powers was 2nd but now unable to surpass Trofimov
With 40km to go, Jiriakov and Doi attack the peleton
They get a decent gap, while the break pass through an intermediate sprint uncontested (Powers is just out of view). 30km to go, and they have 3 mins on the 2 chasers, more than that on the pack
Doi and Jiriakov were caught with 18km to go. The lead of the break is still barely under 3 minutes
So the break will make it to the final KoM. Once again, Flickinger takes it. He ends on 25 pts, Powers ends on 23 - but the KoM jersey - just like all the others - belongs to Trofimov
Now, could the break win the stage? Theyve dropped Tuulhangai but still have a sizeable gap
Powers tries an attack with 11km to go - perhaps sensing that he is unlikely to win a sprint? But it doesnt work
So by 10km to go it is Plan B for Ernst & Young as Vande Velde attacks from the pack
Theres still another hill though, with 7km to go, and rivals for 3rd in GC Froome and Seeldraeyers attack on opposite sides of the road
Froome pulls away from Seeldraeyers, who is followed by Vladimir Efimkin and Calzati
Froome, Efimkin and Calzati catch the break
But Seeldraeyers, Astarloza and Leipheimer dont make it
Efimkin hits the front, determined to take something away from this race after an unfortunate puncture wrecked his GC
And he leads off the sprint
Flickinger is a much stronger sprinter, but also much more tired after the day's efforts. He does however seem to be the only one to challenge Efimkin as Froome and Calzati are foolish to stay behind Striska and Powers
Froome and Calzati do now make their move
Its too late to catch Efimkin though, he wins the stage
Flickinger holds onto 2nd, as Froome takes 3rd managing to block Calzati, to prevent any chance of being passed
They do get a small gap on the pack, so Froome is up to 3rd overall. But as Bru Pascal leads in the peleton theres a crash. Glomser down, but also 5th overall Leipheimer!
Tschopp crashes too, but slides over the line - so no worry for him
But theres no time lost for Glomser or Leipheimer anyway
He didnt do anything today, he didnt need to, but Yuri Trofimov has won the Tour de Beauce - and all the jerseys possible.
