Complete crash on Sept. 1, 08
Juggernaut
Thanks so much for getting me through my Giro 08 crash.

I have reached Sept. 08 and the game just completely crashes. Earlier, when I tried to look at September on the calendar, it would crash, but I just ignored it. So now, when I load my game, it says it's stage 1 of the Vuelta. My team's not in it so I go to move forward to my race and the whole thing crashes as soon as the simulation message for the first stage of the Vuelta shows up.

I went and looked for missing stages of the Vuelta and noticed that v4 only had one xml file and it was for the second stage. I tried the renaming of a file for stage 1 just in case but that did not work either.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

have you checked the amout of teams particiapting in the vuelta.
In 07 it happend to me often that too muc hteams particiapted , which caused the game too crash

Which Database do you use? I had a similar Problem with the Eternal DB in 08.

Sounds reasonable. I had the same problem and had indeed solve it by decreasing number of teams

Sounds good. I'll try changing the number of teams, but two questions:
How do I do that?
How many teams?
Thanks so much

OK, That did not work. I went in and eliminated all the wildcard teams that were chosen, so the number of teams were the 20 forced entries and still the game crashes. Is it possible that this all has to do with the Vuelta starting on Sept 1 and that I have not been able to access the Sept calendar without the game crashing? Thanks again for all the help.

To be honest, I didn't expect it to work.

The above-mentioned trick only works before race start. Now that the race is on, you will have to delete the teams' entries. I don't know if it's the same in PCM07, but try seeing if there's a DYN_team_race table.

If there is, you need to do pretty much what you did before. Find the team entries for the Vuelta and delete some of them, so there's only 20 teams left.

No such dyn file. Any other ideas?

If you upload your save game, I can take a look at it.

(Can't test, though. Don't have the game installed Wink)

Have you not been able to access the Sept calendar, or the Vuelta Route in the Sept calender? In the second case its maybe an error with the XML-files. In my case it was an mistake in the variant descr file.

Well actually it's little bit of both. I thought I would be slick and changed the game date back to August to see what would happen. There are two types of calendars. The default one which lists all the races and the other that lists what your team is doing. The September default shuts the game down. I can get to September in the other calendar mode, but as soon as I click on the Vuelta, it shuts down.

By the way, changing the date does not help anything. I figured I would just skip the Vuelta and move on, but it just kept advancing the calendar without letting me race ever again. So I went ahead and switched back to the current status to troubleshoot again. Still no solutions, but TrueCrue has been very helpful thus far. I think I sent him the right game save file via email. I'm pretty tech savvy, but I'm pushing my limits here.

Another idea, open your savegame with the hannes converter, open sta_stage and search for the vuelta stages. Then look for the coloumn with the file name for the stages (somewhere on the right end) and note them.
Then go to your cm_stages folder and look for these files. In my case the name had a zero too much (f.e. v2_???_01.xml instead of v2_???_1.xml).

You have to rename the files or change the name in your savegame (and maybe also in the descr file).

FlohB is right. If the game crashes when you click on the Vuelta, it means that the stage files are missing.

Again, I don't remember too much of PCM07, but there should be a PCM folder in My Documents. Inside it, there's a file called ProCyclingManager.log. After the crash, open it with Notepad and scroll to the bottom. It will say something along the lines of "loading stage xxxxxxx". Check in Program Files/Cyanide/PCM/CM_Stages for the stage - if it isn't there, try finding something like it and rename it (as FlohB says, it's often a matter of spelling or numbering).

Flohb you are awesome. That was indeed the issue. It was looking for a different file and _01.xml was there instead of _1.xml. Thanks for all the help. You all were great!
