Vuelta a España - Stage 21

It's finally time for the last stage of the Vuelta a España. A traditional criterium in Madrid. You'd think there's nothing left to fight for, but you'd be wrong; Bennati still has a chance to take the points jersey away from Schleck. To do that, he needs at least a second place with Schleck not scoring points, and a first place with Schleck scoring a max of 4 points.
So Gazzeta will probably make sure to catch any breakaway. But, don't rule out any other sprinter who's come to the previous 20 stages better then Bennati - recuperation plays a very big role after three weeks of racing.

After one lap, looking at the huge stadium of Real Madrid, the first attackers have gotten a gap. They are Frei and Engels. Behind them are Parra Pinto and Petrov, who'll join up very soon.

Monfort, Le Mevel, Steensen, Sys and van Aelbroeck would join up a bit later as well. Mouris, Jeseph and Gerard would never make it up to the front.
With 43km left, they still dont really work very well together. The pack is speeding up and is only 4 minutes behind.

As the sprinters teams have almost caugth up one lap later, a few riders give it a last go up the only gradient of the lap.

Not that it would help much; with 8km left, Parra Pinto is the last to be caugth. Marinangeli leads Bennati and Reynes leads Cavendish and Roelandts. Everyone else seems chanceless already.

But, Schwab is bringing Mr. Schleck up front very fast. For the rest, Ceathoven is there with Brown, and Bonnet leads Bozic.

3km; Only Ceathoven was able to keep his leadout going as Bennati switched to this train. Cavendish (in the center) is unsure where to go. One corner left and the Vuelta will be over.

Madrid; we're here! Only 1.6km left to go. Cavendish is now leading Bennati past Brown.

While Brown has yet to pass his leadout man, Bennati seems to have forgotten how to sprint, again!

And indeed, again he lets a sure victory slip away! Might this cost him the points jersey???

We can see Schleck didn't make it to the top 10, but will it be enough for the points jersey??

Either way, he's got the big prize anyway; Mr. Andy Schleck has won the Vuelta a España 2010! Congratulations.
But, let's not foget, Schleck and Orozco both have the same amounth of points for the KOM jersey - who will the jury decide to be the winner?
