Hi.
PCM 09 is a... good game. Not great, but good. Even though it gives you a feeling of being in the whole cycling-world, there is one thing that I cant let go. When I see a rider on my team he is nothing more than a name to me. If a senior rider on my team who has not won anything for a while finally wins the Giro befoew he retires, my only responce is "Okey".
When I look at for example FM (which I'm also a fan of) I feel like I get an "emotional bond" with my players. There are some who I want to keep no matter what, but in PCM I just cant get that feeling.
I cant put my finger on what it is, but do anyone else feel the same way or is it just me? |

What I'm saying is that is brings more of an atmosphere to the game, that in turn makes a better game (as far s I'm concerned). |

I agree in general although I have been known to jump up and down when I do well, normally in TT's, and normally when it is for minor placings in a small team.
I think the reason is twofold, firstly whereas in fm a goal happens quickly in pcm winning a stage takes time and it is more a slow burn enthusiasm than a fast burn, hence TT's where you don't know how well you have done until you cross the finish line.
Secondly, and more importantly, is control. Whereas in fm you have no control over your players and hence they feel like individuals, whereas in pcm you control the riders and hence the results feel more like your own work than the riders themselves.
As far as having players you refuse to sell, that could be because results in football are more subjective than cycling, i.e. it's much easier to pick poor performances out in a race than in a match.

When I was talking about players tht I didnt want to sell, I ment players who belong to a certain club. For example, I would never dream of selling someone like Giggs or Scholes from United even if their performance was utter crap. In PCM I dont get that feeling. |

Is that not just cycling in general. I couldn't see Giggs or Scholes leaving Man U in real life but I can't think of a cyclist who would never move teams (or really any teams which exist for a cyclists entire career)

I'm only really attached to the riders/players I like in real life in either game.
The others I really don't care much about. |

i do get excited when i'm winning
But if i lose i really don't care. And i agree with the retirement thing, unless it's my leader it's like "Ok, i'll find someone else now"

I can often be seen sat, staring at the results table muttering "well done" to my riders, even for minor placings. Not sure if that's attachment to them, or just a slight case of lunacy on my part... |

I swear at the PC screen when my young riders get dropped.

I know the feeling, but only in the 1st season. Whenever I reach the 2nd season, I feel that it's my team, my work. And I love seeing my new signings do well.
And even better: Young Riders that I have scouted - seeing them progress and do well at my team, now, that can get very emotional at some points |

I totally get where cactus-jack is going. I cant bring myself to fire people in FM for some reason. Especially not if they have pictures or are young people with no future at all (23 PA anyone?)
A 58 avg rider in PCM though? Get out.

One other thing, for me it's usually a big achievement to actually make it through the first season - so I don't have time to form emotional attachments to the riders (and cry ) when something happens to them. |

any game gets more immersive when you put more of yrself in it. so when i start a carreer and thoroughly plan the year for all individual riders, in the planningfase already i start to get this "real" feel.
it helps to have debt too! when yr in trouble with money the game becomes very immersive. then a performance by a very expensive leader is truelly valuable, you love him for it!
but planning is everything, you just gotta love it. if i have some talented 18 year old planning to train skills most of the year, then perform in a select few races in october, and then have him break a collarbone halfway through september, that's immersion with a vengeance for you! but if you just let him hang loose all year and he breaks something... who cares then?
well that's my thoughts on e-motion. |

emotions are really hard on videogames i would think, though they could have made a few more victory animations |
