Another hilly chance thus another chance to gain time on other favourites. Danielson got the yellow jersey yesterday, will he be able to enter the first mountain stage with it weared?
Forero, Ansons and Lai are the only riders that want to be part of the breakaway. The peloton lets them go and they make the BOTD.
Unsurprinsgly, Forero win the intermediate sprint in front of Ansons and Lai.
At 5 km to the top of the first climb, Ansons is dropped.
Meanwhile, the advantage is about 7'30''. Starbucks is relaying in the pack to start to decrease the gap.
Lai relays alone in the uphill, but Forero is the one who takes the first place. Ansons is no man's land. About this KOM, favourites for today like Anza and Efimkin attack to try to get some points.
Again, Forero takes the sprint. 80km to go and 6 minutes is the gap. As soon as the riders pass this sprint, the ascent for Alto de las Chiflas starts. That's almost 20km of lenght but the average slope is of 4.2%.
In the beginning of the climb, Anza, Murgoitio and Torres attack.
Murgoitio never closed up with Torres and Anza after the attack and it's now possible to watch the gap between them (30 seconds) as the duo catch and pass Ansons.
Anza and Torres quickly gain 2 minutes on the peloton and aware of this, Wii Racing starts to relay, in a much harder way comparing to Starbucks.
Forero, who was dropped earlier in the mountain is caught by Anza. Torres is losing contact with the Italian.
Lai is still up there and takes the KOM sprint in front of Anza and Torres.
Anza catches Lai in the last classifed ascent of the day. 52km to go - 1'44'' on the pack.
Anza drops the Asian and is the the first in the KOM.
In the same mark, Torres is swallowed by attacks for the mountain points. Ortega is third, edging Efimkin.
The riders' power isn't many and the riders in the pack to help relaying are not many too. Knowing this, Santander and Nespresso join forces with Wii Racing and Starbucks.
Pedraza, Henao Montoya, Perez Cuapio and Moreno attack! They are catching both Lai and Ortega, who was not caught since the KOM sprint. Still almost 40km to go, isn't this move too early?
Yellow jersey, Danielson, uses the descent to join the group.
Anza's solo adventure ends here, with 25km to go.
Moreno takes the sprint in front of Pedraza and Danielson. Despite of this acceleration, the gap is at 40 seconds with 21km to go. Lai is, of course, paying for their effort and loses contact with the group. The same thing will happen with Anza.
55 seconds is the gap with 10km to go.
And 3km after, Brajkovic finally attacks. Efimkin, Anza and Dyadichkin try to follow. But they are not the only as MartÃnez, Osella, Vasquez, Lara Ruiz and Öste-Macdonald also attack. None of them will manage to gain time on the pack, though.
Pedraza opens the sprint!
With 2km to go, he is still leading. Ortega lost definately contact.
Moreno with an huge kick, is now at the front with less than a thousand meters to go.
And he wins! Danielson takes the second place and Henao Montoya is the third.
