The last stage of the race is also the shortest. But don't think it's easy as the riders will pass through lots of ascents especially in the second half of the stage. Schumacher is the leader of the points classification and that prize seems very secure as the mountain classification lead, at the moment, by Froome. Reus has the white jersey but he must pay attention to Ignatiev who can steal it. The German, Schumacher, also has the yellow jersey which is held by 19 seconds. Lots of actions are, therefore, predicted to this stage!
De Kort, Willems, Locatelli, Rincón, Ascani, Barclay, Sampaio and Corwin are the first riders that escape from the pack. Sampaio and Barclay have a small advantage due to the attacks that were made when escaping the pack. They take first and second in the first KOM sprint, respectively. Corwin is third.
At 53km to go, Diaz Corrales, Caruso and Appelby attack from the pack. Pagoto and Charteau would attack shortly after too. The peloton is at high speed thanks to Wii Racing, though.
Willems is the first in the second mountain sprint. He holds a small advantage (25 seconds) to De Kort and Corwin that take second and third places, respectively.
Same advantage for De Kort and Corwin on the group formed by Rincón, Locatelli, Barclay and Sampaio.
Ascani is a minute further back as he lost contact with the group in the final meters of the first hill and never rejoined.
Pagoto, Appelby, Caruso and Charteau are at one minute and 30 seconds of Ascani.
40 seconds separate the late attackers from the pack lead by AON Global, Jack Wolfskin and Wii Racing. 47km to go, and the peloton is at 4'26'' of the front rider, Willems.
Third classified hill and Willems is the first with an advantage of 1'39'' for the attacking De Kort. Sampaio takes third. Note that Barclay, Ascani, Pagoto, Appelby, Caruso and Charteau were already caught and that the chasing group's advantage for the peloton is no bigger than 1 minute.
21km to go and De Kort, who was second at the road, is caught. This means that only Willems is ahead of the pack. And with an advantage of 2'20''.
The last classified hill is near and the attacks start! Bertagnolli, Ignatiev and Gilbert open the action. But their attempt was cut by a descent.
Willems is the first over the last classified hill. 2 minutes and 13 seconds is the gap to the pack. Can he make it to the end?
The second is Froome who attacked in the last kilometer of the hill, but it seems just to secure some points which is not very clever as he would win the mountain jersey even without the points taken in this stage. De Maar takes the third place.
The road rises again and the 4th overall, Bertagnolli, attacks! Willems is at 1'22''.
Now it's Gilbert and Scarponi's turn to attack.
Fanfani attacks and the big guns, Schumacher and Kirchen, attack too!
All the ascents are over (except the ascent to the finish) and Willems is caught by Gilbert, Bertagnolli and Schumacher. Kirchen is not there, he is losing 17 seconds, his second place is at stake! Scarponi couldn't also join and he's a further 20 seconds behind. The pack is at 21 seconds of Scarponi. 3km to go!
The sprint is open and Kirchen is catching the front group!
Bertagnolli takes the lead but Schumacher is speeding up. Final kilometer!
And Schumacher takes the last stage and the overall win! Impressive display by the German throughout the race as he won four stages! Bertagnolli takes second and Gilbert completes the podium in front of Kirchen. The first positions of the GC don't suffer any changes in this last stage.
