Giro d'Italia - Stage 14

Flat rated, but this will be by no means an easy day

We have a leading break of 3 - Clayes, Klemme and Moinard

Kvasina, Van Goolen, Deignan, Coenen, Perget and Cummings also attacked but did not ever become involved with those 3

Claeys takes 1 climb, Klemme 2 and by the 3rd climb, the last of the real big ones, it looks more and more like these 3 riders will decide the stage

The pack has been whittled down to 50 though, with Ricco sat on the back

Pace in the peleton slows though and they grow to 91 riders again, this favours the leading trio more but that is doon leading duo as Moinard is dropped

Over the 4th climb, Claeys pushed hard and continued to do so after that but Klemme was able to cling on and stay in contact

Roughly 3/4 minutes behind is the pack and as they build for the sprint we see Bertagnolli, Vastaranta, Ballan, Bellis, Bakelandts, Roelandts, Bennati and Davis

Now time to go back up front though as Claeys leads Klemme in the sprint

It is an uphill finish, and very steep, which probably favours Claeys

Klemme cant do anything, Dimitri Claeys takes a great win always hugging the inside barrier to make it all the more harder for Klemme to do anything. It is probably a deserved win aswell

Moinard was caught inside the final kilometre so it is Ballan who takes 3rd, doing so ahead of Bellis, Bakelandts, and Roelandts - Bennati does take 7th but was blown away on the climb by the others sprinting

A bad day on the bike eliminates Mazzoleni, leaving Celestino as the only control rider - while Franklin Chacon was eliminated right on the finish line. Chacon could have won Stage 11 but crashed out of the break and got injured in doing so. These 2 plus 16 others have missed the time cut - including 22nd overall Wim Van Huffel who was suffering like Chacon after a crash on Stage 11.
