Second stage is a flat / hilly crieterium. A good attack good bring the victory today, but their sprinters also have their chance. M&M seems to be the strongest team for the sprints with Vaitkus, Nazon and Lorenzetto.
The breakaway was split into 2 groups, the difference between them always being somewhere arround 1 minute. Sambris and Longo Borghini were in the first group
Muller and Kirk were in the second group
With 60 km to go Hincapie, Visconti and Herve attacked. That was the end for Muller and Kirk, who gave up and they were caught by the pack
Visconti and Hincapie looked stronger than Herve so they left the French rider behind
BMC are leading the chase in the pack as both Hincapie and Visconti are dangerous riders for Donald's yellow jersey
Meanwhile there was another attack from the pack. Gallopin went away to join Herve in the third group of the race
But it didn't last for too long and they were caught by the pack
With 25 km left Hincapie and Visconti were also caught. They didn't chose the best time for an attack there
Sambris and Longo Borghini are still in front. But they have less than 1 minute advantage with 20 left from the stage
M&M are now leading the pack as a mass sprint will really suite them
The escapes enterted the last 10 kilometres with only 20 seconds left from thei advantage
Behind them, the preparations for the mass sprint are being made, with Jacques - Maynes leading the pack, with the M&M train, Nazon and Lorenzetto, on the other side of the road
With 5km left the escapes are almost caught. Also Jacques - Maynes seems to have a made a gap between him and the pack
Soon he joined the breakaway group but Longo Borghini and Sambris were able to take his wheel
The sprint starts with them having a little advantage over the pack
M&M lost the control in the pack but still on of their sprinters, Vaitkus, is in a very good position. Gauster is leading the pack at the moment for Nokia - Nike
With 1.5 km left from today's stage Longo Borghini still had some energy left to take the lead from Jacques - Maynes. Also the pack is really close now
Vaitkus is the fastest in the pack and with 1 km left he is very close to the escapes
With 500 m left to ride he joined the group but it seems to late for him to make anything now
Longo Borghini started celebrating but it could be too soon as Vaitkus still didn't give up
But the Italian managed to hand on and he took the win. Vaitkus was second followed by Sambris, who brings the first points for Acqua & Sapone
