Giro d'Italia - Stage 12

A huge time trial today, with some tough climbs that will certainly suit the climbers. The stage is hard to predict though, Cunego probably starts as favourite but lets see what happens.

The early pace setter by a long way is Joost Posthuma

As you can see whern 49th overall Rolland crosses the line to take 2nd, Posthuma leads by over a minute at the finish - and all riders are now on course

Sings of change are coming with Barredo 1 second ahead of Posthuma at the first check, and Gerdemann 6 seconds ahead. But more impressive is Nibali - 42 seconds quicker

Nocentini goes 2nd +11, while Devolder beats Nibali by 4 seconds. 3rd for Karpets +11. But then we have Danilo Di Luca, who beats Devolder's time by 14 seconds.

But now time for some surprising performances - in a bad way. Jose Rujano is 1'20 down on Di Luca already at the first check, Contador is not as bad 32 seconds down, Marzano is at 1'19 and then Emannuele Sella of all people goes 1'10 slower than Di Luca!

Gerdemann is the first man to beat Posthuma at Check 2, by 2 seconds

Pozzovivvo is 27 seconds behind at C1, Pellizotti at 53

Ricco is next and wow thats bad, 1'38 behind! And Damiano Cunego doesnt go fastest either, although the race leader is only 14 seconds behind his teammate.

Michael Rogers now emerges, level with Posthuma at Check 1 but taking the lead for now at Check 2 - 14 seconds quicker than Gerdemann

Nibali has almost caught Iglinski as he reaches the 2nd check, a massive 48 seconds up on Rogers. Nocentini has also nearly caught someone - Anton - as he goes 2nd, +41. Lovkvist comes through 1'29 behind Nibali, he is set to lose roughly half the advantage he held over Nibali in the young riders classification.

But now Stijn Devolder, riding well today and he takes the lead at C2 by 12 seconds

Karpets goes 3rd +26 as Linus Gerdemann approaches the finish. First to beat Posthuma at Check 2 - but 38 seconds slower than Posthuma at the finish, a poor finale for him. Danilo di Luca now takes the lead at C2, having passed Ardila - but the lead is only 8 seconds this time, he has lost time on Devolder.

As Michael Rogers beats Posthuma at the finish by 29 seconds, all eyes are back on the 2nd climb as Cunego passes Ricco!

Nibali has finished 1st, 21 seconds ahead of Rogers while Nocentini goes 4th +1'08

Now time for Danilo di Luca to finish. He has led all stage but could be losing ground on Devolder. Heading towards the line aaand ... 2nd!! He is 6 seconds slower than Devolder!

Ardila finishes +2'26. Rujano (+3'00) and Contador (+1'01) practically finish together, while Marzano finishes +3'16.

Pozzovivvo takes 5th +39, with Sella finishing +2'41

Pellizotti goes +1'56 as Cunego comes in 3rd +11 - of all the stages youd have expected La Gazetta to win this one, but it is Stijn Devolder with the best time.
