Bennati surprised me today. Bennati for keeping up his speed for so long. he was in the wind for 250m and only blew up completely in the final 50. that's mighty impressive.
Cavendish is confirming he's improving as expected. with luck he might be a top sprinter one day. nothing we didn't already know, but it's still nice to confirm progress.
McEwen was as usual. I've been saying it since last season and you're probably sick of hearing me say it, but I won't shut up: he's done.

Visconti still doint fine. I wouldn't be surprised seeing him finish within the top 10 GC. I don't think theres too many riders capable of doing MUCH better than him in the mountains, and well only the top 40 really has a shot at going past him, and of those 40 I suppose 25+ are helpers. |

donnu he isn't that good of a climber.
small climbs yes then he can follow. but look at yesterday. he had to get the leaders go and lost at the top 2 min on the leaders.
and with the dolomites saterday adn sunday + ITT of the blockhaus ( an extreme climb ) i fear the max would be a top 20 if he's lucky

I agree, his last great performance was in the 2006 Tour de France, since that he has been some way off his peak. It's a bit sad that the Worlds in Australia is not until 2010, because there's no way he will win in 2010 and McEwen is one out of 2 riders I would most like to see win the World Championships (the other is Zabel).

Well he will definately lose spaces, but since he is the captain of Quick Step now, he should be getting quite some help...
Bosisio behind him shouldn't be too difficult to keep behind...
Imo these will move past Visconti:
Contador
Klöden
Nibali
Savoldelli
Ricco
Di Luca
Menchov
Simoni
Leipheimer
I kinda think he can keep the rest behind... Maybe some of those above will also retire, crash or have a bad day, so he could get above those. Savoldelli for instance could finish in 15th if he is only helping Di Luca... Same goes for Klöden...
But if it all goes into rider qualities, then he will get 18th or so in the end, but I really think he can do wonders if given the right help. |

uhm....Gárate
Gárate may not be GC leader, but he'll get a lot of help for stage wins and the mountains jersey.

I'm thinking more will pass him. a bucketload more. Pellizotti, Petrov, Valjavec, maybe Pfannberger, etc. I could name quite a few more. I really don't think he can cope. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Contador in rosa already on saturday afternoon.

It seems someone else other than Cavendish thinks hes a top sprinter
This is from the BBC website:
Bennati said: "I thought I'd lost it but the judges told me I won it by just three centimetres. I've lost sprints like that in the past but this time I won it.
"I knew I had to be first into the last corner if I wanted to win. It meant I had to do a long sprint but it was the best tactic.
"If I'd been behind Cavendish I would have lost because he's the fastest in the world in the last 50 metres of a sprint."

Cavendish also agrees that hes the fastest in the world over the last 200m, he just has to be close enough at the end to have a chance of overtaking |

I think so. hopefully high road learned from their mistakes, and will now come with their train only in the final km. it they bring cavendish in first position to the final 200m it'll be easy for him. |
