Kuurne - Brussel - Kuurne
I felt some pressure today, as our team has the great tradition of winning here. Two years ago with Greipel, last year Roelandts. Today I'm leader.
95% chance of a sprint with a reduced peloton. I was surrounded by the team.
But the breakaway of the day remained out of sight for awfully long, I thought we wouldn't catch them.
The sprint was off and there was one remaining breakaway member left, sprinting in front of the peloton: Thomas.
My legs were great and I was heading towards the finish like a rocket! Unfortunately, Thomas never slowed down...
As for me, I have to be content with another 2nd place. It doesn't feel that great, though.
Result
1 | Geraint Thomas | Sky Pro Cycling | 4h22'24 | | 2 | Stijn Van Gent | Lotto-Belisol | s.t. | IanButler | 3 | Tom Boonen | Omega Pharma-Quick-Step Cycling Team | s.t. | | 4 | Fabian Cancellara | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | | 5 | Bernhard Eisel | Sky Pro Cycling | s.t. | | 6 | Gert Steegmans | Team Saxo Bank | s.t. | | 7 | Peter Sagan | Liquigas-Cannondale | s.t. | | 8 | Greg Van Avermaet | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | | 9 | Alessandro Ballan | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | | 10 | Joost Posthuma | Radioshack Nissan Trek | s.t. | | 11 | Jürgen Roelandts | Lotto-Belisol | s.t. | IanButler | 12 | Maarten Wynants | Landbouwkrediet-Euphony | s.t. | | 13 | Stijn Devolder | Radioshack Nissan Trek | s.t. | | 14 | Sep Vanmarcke | Team Argos-Shimano | s.t. | | 15 | Yoann Offredo | FDJ-BigMat | s.t. | | 16 | Steve Chainel | FDJ-BigMat | s.t. | | 17 | Sébastien Rosseler | Garmin - SplitSe | s.t. | | 18 | Mathieu Ladagnous | Cofidis, Le Crédit en Ligne | s.t. | | 19 | Philippe Gilbert | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | | 20 | Nick Nuyens | Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling Team | s.t.
Well, I'm somewhat disappointed. On the one hand, I've never performed as well here, so early in the season, too. But on the other hand, I broke the team's wins in Kuurne.
I'll be back in about a month, I'm going to work on my sprint a bit more, this can't and won't happen to me again next time! |

Very close on taking the win... better luck next time.
EDIT: This was posted at the same time as the K-B-K report. Anyway, hopefuly Stijn isn't turning a Bennati and can get a win anytime soon.

Again 2nd. This time even more unlucky as you was the best of the peloton.
But in general a good start into the season even with the big win missing. |

@FreitasPCM: I hope so, Vanendert already has that, not Stijn as well! team victories in 2014 so far: 0
@roturn: Thanks. It's a better start he usually takes. He still has plenty of time to get a win.
@banyai2000: Thank you
@sutty68: Don't worry about that, I'm glad too. If someone has to beat Stijn, I'm happy it's Thomas At least Stijn took a moral victory (against Boonen & Cancellara) |

Disaster strikes in Tirreno - Adriatico
In the fourth stage of Tirreno - Adriatico, Bart De Clerq, while descending in a breakaway group, took an extremely nasty fall. He was transferred to a nearby hospital, where he eventually regained consciousness.
After a series of emergency operations, the diagnose was set, and it was not a happy one: broken neck, broken arm, broken shoulder, fractured skull, a heavy concussion, shattered leg... Those are only a few of the many injuries. The chance he'll ride again is slim. If he ever returns, he's always welcome in Lotto-Belisol. We hope he can recover from this accident and pick up his life again.
Other news:
Jurgen Van Den Broeck won the final stage of Paris - Nice (the mountain time trial) and ends up 3rd in the General Classification. Andy Schleck takes the overall win for the second time in a row.
1 | Andy Schleck | Radioshack Nissan Trek | 27h50'47 | | 2 | Alejandro Valverde | Radioshack Nissan Trek | + 1'13 | | 3 | Jurgen Van den Broeck | Lotto-Belisol | + 1'50 | IanButler | 4 | Bauke Mollema | Omega Pharma-Quick-Step Cycling Team | + 3'47 | | 5 | Luis León Sánchez | Katusha Team | + 4'07 | | 6 | Fabian Cancellara | BMC Racing Team | + 6'12 | | 7 | Igor Anton | Euskaltel Euskadi | + 6'30 | | 8 | Peter Velits | Omega Pharma-Quick-Step Cycling Team | + 7'51 | | 9 | Amets Txurruka | Katusha Team | + 8'29 | | 10 | Jan Bakelants | Radioshack Nissan Trek | + 9'24
Meanwhile, brother Fränk Schleck takes the overall win in Tirreno - Adriatico. Francis De Greef continued the race and ended up on a 4th place.
1 | Fränk Schleck | Radioshack Nissan Trek | 26h17'57 | | 2 | Branislau Samoilau | Movistar Team | + 3'17 | | 3 | Diego Ulissi | Lampre - Caffeco | + 4'34 | | 4 | Francis De Greef | Lotto-Belisol | + 6'35 | IanButler | 5 | Daniel Martin | Garmin - SplitSe | + 7'39 | | 6 | Philippe Gilbert | BMC Racing Team | + 8'49 | | 7 | Paul Martens | Rabobank Cycling Team | + 8'52 | | 8 | Eros Capecchi | Liquigas-Cannondale | + 9'36 | | 9 | Nairo Quintana | Movistar Team | + 9'45 | | 10 | Rui Costa | Team Saxo Bank | + 10'24
Of course, such results are good, especially for De Greef, but we're nowhere near a celebrating mood.
We'll see you at the Loire Atlantique. |

Nasty crash. What is PCM saying when he will come back?
Or do you let him retire now? |

Poor De Clerq..
And Stijn shouldn´t spend too much time with Jelle because of those second places
btw: how is Eric and his son? |

@Miguel98 & ste_18: Thanks!
@fcancellara: I know.
@baggieboys32: I hope so, too, but the odds are against him.
@banyai2000: Now this bloody thing is going to get on my nerves in my own story as well?
@roturn: Well, it said June, but I decided to make it a worse crash. So I fired him (poor guy) and I'll make sure no one signs him for a while. Maybe he'll return one day.
@sutty68: Definitely. Also bad for the team, he's an excellent mountain domestique. (he had just reached 76 climbing)
@Schleck96: Yeah, only this is just a game, luckily. Wouter was for real...
@JuanMotr: I think Stijn will delete Jelle from his facebook friend-list Eric & son are good, Eric already has him under contract with Lotto in 2034 |

Ouch, poor De Clerq... I hope he recovers well, you lost a good mountain domestique for the rest of the season. |
