Spain have had about 70% of the ball and yet the match remains goalless. Just damn the strikers.
Switzerland kept defending correctly - hey move on and go ahead

There are four matches left in this group. Let us go under the assumption that Honduras looses both of theirs. (Let's face it; for them even a draw would be a miracle)
Chile beats Swizerland, Spain beats Chile
All three teams end with 6 points, goal difference decides.
Chile beats Switzerland, Chile beats or draws Spain
1. Chile, 2. Switzerland
Switzerland beats or draws Chile, Spain beats Chile
1. Switzerland, 2. Spain
Switzerland beats Chile, Chile beats Spain
1. Switzerland, 2. Chile
Switzerland beats Chile, Spain and Chile draws
1. Switzerland, 2. Goal difference decides
Switzerland draws Chile, Chile draws Spain
1. Switzerland, 2. Chile
Switzerland draws Chile, Chile beats Spain
The Swiss and Chile advance, goal difference decides.
Conclusion: Things looking great for the Swiss and very bad for the Spanish unless they want to meet Brazil in the first knockout match.

Way to go Switzerland. Suddenly its almost realistic for them to reach the final 16.

Swiss were thoroughly realistics and that works. Still, I cannot consider that they deserved the lead all the same - that was against the run of play.
On the other side, Spain developed a stunning collective play which should have given them a couple of goals. Unlucky, they shot over, they hammered at the cross bar but they bowed before Switzerland in the end. Second half was great and got better step by step
Really do appreciate that match

I think Spanish guys have shown their limits again a team who's always had a very good defense.
To me, this match was a bit like Inter-Barcelona (relatively speaking).
Spanish have the possession, but they play like some sort of handball team, playing from right to left, just outside the opponent area, and against a very good defense, it's really hard for them to find some space, or cross the ball.
Their game is too slow, and even when their strikers got some speed (i.e. Navas or Silva) and can cross, there's nobody tall enough before the goal to score with a header.
But still, it's technically perfect.
One little question : did Piqué start as a center forward in his career ? He's got some sort of vista. He almost scored the same goal as against Inter.

Hahaha Spain lost. How pathetic. Now it's matter of time until our media starts accusing the Swiss team of using an illegal electric engine. |
