THE RACE

Our first rider to complete the course is William Dugan who comes in with a time that will not worry the riders looking for the stage win

The first good time is set by Johan Vansummeren of Garmin Sharp who posts 43m 48s

Well those time trial performances have ripped the heart out of our race challenge.
We still have Vegard Stake Laengen in 12th place but he has too big of a margin to be taken seriously.
All we can do now is to ride for the pride of the team

alex344
Well I guess now your best option is to get into the Breakways and try and win a stage that way

Alzate/Team Exergy, Vennell/Bissell Pro Cycling, Housley/Kenda 5 Hour Energy, Grajales/Competitive Cyclist and Van Dijk/Jamis Sutter Home broke clear almost as soon as the flag was dropped to start the stage and have been clear ever since. They currently lead by four minutes and six seconds from a uninterested peleton. Alex Bowden/Team Type 1 was with these riders but has suffered a puncture and is still chasing back

MOUNTAIN - Anderson/Spidertech

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-60KM.jpg

After the last climb Anderson/Spidertech has opened up an advantage of forty three seconds

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-6-PIC9_zps7fe016d1.jpg

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-50KM.jpg

He has now extended his lead to 1m 43s over now just six chasers as Alex Bowden has hit the wall and has been picked up by the peleton

MOUNTAIN - Anderson/Spidertech

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-40KM.jpg

Van Der Velde/Jelly Belly Cycling is the sole chaser of the leader on the road

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-6-PIC11_zps3fc89738.jpg

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-30KM.jpg

Gilbert/BMC Racing has decided enough is enough and has set out on his own with the aim of catching the rider up the road

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-20KM.jpg

Gilbert's attack worked as Anderson has now been caught, but almost immediately Andy Schleck/Radioshack-Nissan has gone on the attack

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-10KM.jpg

Schleck is over four minutes back on the GC but has already gained back a minute with just ten kilometres to go

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-6-PIC12_zps9dc34f37.jpg

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-5KM.jpg

He is tapping out a steady rhythm and is already within five kilometre of the finish

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-6-PIC13_zpsd962b796.jpg

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-1KM.jpg

Tom Danielson/Garmin Sharp has him in his sights but he may have left it too late as Schleck is about to go under the red kite

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/checkeredflag1.gif

And he has as Andy starts to take the applause of the crowd at the finish and is definitely going to improve his position on the general classification tonight

That was a tough day in the saddle for the guys today and has certainly put pay to any hopes we had of grabbing a top ten finish on the GC
