What happened to Sagan anyway? He just dropped with 7k to go
I suppose he just want to leave something to others.
He dropped to save some energy probably, this race is training only according to his statement from yesterday, i will check his pages later for some info.
And Viviani almost benefited from that, but nice win from Cav, he is stil the second fastest on the world.

He lost the GC lead though? Surely that wasn't part of the plan?

It's not like he would've won the race anyway, with a time trial still to come.
He's just saving himself for the Ronde
Given the insane amount of energy they spend every day, how is taking the last 7 km easy instead of doing them in the middle or end of the peloton going to make a difference in terms of energy saved ?
The difference between both scenarios must be 0,5 % or something.
I'm pretty sure Sagan will not start tomorrow, at least that's what he did last year. It's easier to quit the race when you're not in the leader's jersey.
Did anyone watch the double sprint Demare did in that stage? Crazy to see from overhead. Comes from like 15 odd riders back. Pops onto Cavs wheel, and then tries to go around as well...before fading slightly. But still. 4th from where he was. Impressive.

And you are the winner of our local "Guess the future show". Sagan is not going to start today and he back off yesterday, because he was worried about possible crash in narrow streets and ruining rest of classics season.
He also said that he was there to some more racing fitness, not to get a stage win, but he felt very strong on Tuesday, so he went for it, i love this attitude.
So RvV, Brabantes Pilj and Amstel remaining in his campaign.

*walks on the stage*
I want to thank my parents, who made this possible for me.
Sagan is a beast indeed. Though did anyone notice Feillu's sprinting? He was quite impressive!
That was as much a sprint to the final turn, as it was to the finish line afterwards. Kristoff won the same stage last year - clearly knows his way around De Panne!
