The Tirreno - Adriatico starts with a 131km long stage with start and finish in Sorrento.
img842.imageshack.us/img842/2273/1etappe1.jpg

Thomas Dekker decides to go for the KOTM-points in the first tweo categorized climbs early in the race. He take sthe most points at the summit of the Picco Sant'Angelo and the Praiano. Both climbs, he is followed by BMC's Alessandro Ballan.
img855.imageshack.us/img855/6938/2kotm1.jpg

Towards the 3rd KOTM-sprint, there is an attack by Emanuelle Sella (Lampre) and Jens Voigt (Nissan) and they are the first ones at the summit.
img855.imageshack.us/img855/9527/3kotm3.jpg

Sella and Voigt get company. Steven Kruijswijk (Rabobank) and Marco Frapporti (Colnago) are these 2 riders and the 4 of them get a maximum lead of 4'30.
img850.imageshack.us/img850/7396/4is.jpg

There are 3 laps to go on the closed circuit in Sorrento. That means 19 kilometres remaining with a 1'47 lead for the 4.
img832.imageshack.us/img832/3194/519km.jpg

In the penultimate lap Garmin's Johan Vansummeren attacks out of the peloton and when the last lap starts, he joins the 4 leaders. The chasing peloton, with the Monster Energy-riders in the lead, follows at '48.
img818.imageshack.us/img818/3314/66km.jpg

The gap gets closed in the last climb and then Thomas Dekker takes control as the first rider in our sprint train. 2 kilometres remaining and the climb has caused the real sprinters of being chanceless for the win.
img844.imageshack.us/img844/1231/72300m.jpg

Wilco Kelderman has taken over from Dekker 1500 metres before the finish. They have created a small gap, and Peter Sagan is ready to take over!
img535.imageshack.us/img535/6770/81200m.jpg

And Peter Sagan brings it home! Kelderman makes it a 1-2 (the Saxo rider is one lap behind), so the start of this Tirreno is perfect!

Stage 2 is from Sorrento to Baia Domizia and 164 kilometres long. It's a pretty easy stage with a few short climbs in it.
img189.imageshack.us/img189/3010/1etappe2.jpg

With the first KOTM-sprint early in the race, Thomas Dekker wants to collect some more points and he succeeds in getting them.
img824.imageshack.us/img824/6938/2kotm1.jpg

After that, a group of 8 riders attack out of the peloton and form the BOTD. they get a maximum gap of 5 minutes. In the group are: Marc de Maar, G. Rast (Nissan), T. Miyazawa (Farnese), J. Bellis (Saxo), A. Marangoni (Liquigas), A. Furlan (Androni), A. Donati (Acqua et Sapone) and L.Y. Bak (Lotto).
img20.imageshack.us/img20/2397/3kotm2.jpg

As the stage has to turn out in a mass sprint, the BOTD gets caught 10km before the finish.
img818.imageshack.us/img818/3825/510km.jpg

The preparation for the sprint has started and Tyler Farrar has the perfect lead out in Tom Boonen. Boonen leads the pack with only 1km to go.
img836.imageshack.us/img836/6709/61km.jpg

And it's an easy win for the American, taking his first win of the year. Mark Cavendish gets 2nd, Matthew Goss 3rd and Theo Bos 13th. All riders finish within the same time as the winner.

The 3rd stage from Sessa Aurunca to Venafro (164 kilometres) is flat, except for one small categorized climb.
img10.imageshack.us/img10/1829/1etappe3.jpg

A group of 13 riders form today's BOTD. SOme of the riders in it are Robert Hunder (Garmin), Dimitri Muravyev (Astana), Timothy Roe (Sony Ericsson), Joost van Leijen & Johnny Hoogerland (Vacansoleil), Salvatore Commesso (Androni) and Mark Renshaw (Rabobank). Hunter takes the points in the KOTM-sprint. The maximum lead of this BOTD is 6 minutes.
img52.imageshack.us/img52/3735/2kotmk.jpg

The last members of the BOTD get caught 6 kilometres before the finish. It will be another mass sprint!
img832.imageshack.us/img832/1703/36km.jpg

Omega Pharma - Quick Step has taken the lead with their train for yesterday's winner Tyler Farrar. Theo Bos is in his wheel with 3 kilometres remaining.
img850.imageshack.us/img850/4176/43km.jpg

And just like yesterday, Tom Boonen leads Farrar into the last kilometre. Bernhard Eisel with Mark Cavendish in his wheel is approaching, just as Tor Hushovd and Qantas with Matthew Goss. Bos is having trouble to stay in the wheel of Farrar.
img845.imageshack.us/img845/2002/51km.jpg

And the battle between the 3 best sprinters in the world is decided in the advantage of Tyler Farrar again. Cav gets 2nd, Goss 3rd. Bos finishes in 7th place. He had a perfect position, so probably this is his place in the ranking of the sprinters. All riders, but one finish in the peloton.

I think this was the maximum result in this strong field of sprinters. We don't mind loosing the leaders jersey to Farrar (and Cav), as we believe that they will loose time in one of the three following stages. And now we don't have to chase down the breakaways!

Stage 4 and we enter the mountains. The route from Venafro to Tivoli is 177 kilometres long and has 3 categorized clims in it, the Rionero Sannitico, the Passo del Diavolo (with 1413m. the highest point in this Tirreno) and the Sante Marie. But as the climbs aren't that long nor steep, and the last summit is 52 kilometres before the finish, even the sprinters can sprint for the stage win here.
img714.imageshack.us/img714/6385/1etappe4.jpg

5 riders sneak away in the first climb of the day: Alessandro Ballan (BMC), Stef Clement (Rabobank), Romain Feillu (Vacansoleil), Jésus Hernández (Saxo) and Maciej Paterski (Liquigas). The peloton lets them ride away and the 5 reach the first summit in that order. Ballan is aiming to take over the KOTM-jersey, and we will let him do that (don't know why, just don't fel like chasing them). So he also takes the most points at the Passo del Diavolo. The peloton follows at 9 minutes, with 141 kilometres remaining.
img202.imageshack.us/img202/2397/3kotm2.jpg

Ballan also is the first at the 3rd KOTM-sprint. The BOTD still has a gap of 4'30, with 52 km to go.
img171.imageshack.us/img171/8346/5kotm3.jpg

With about 15 kilometres to go, Ballan attacks out of the leading group. 10km before the finish, he has a lead of ´23 to Feillu and Clement. The peloton is 2´40 behind, so when Ballan stays in the lead, he will also take over the GC-lead.
img685.imageshack.us/img685/5587/610km.jpg

And he stays in the lead! What a great win by Alessandro Ballan, his first of the season and he knows that he will be the new GC-leader.
img821.imageshack.us/img821/6512/7finish.jpg

Feillu finishes just in front of the peloton, '24 behind Ballan. Boasson Hagen wins the sprint of the peloton, and Sagan takes the 9th place. A few big names finish behind the peloton: Igor Antón, Rein Taaramäe, Jakob Fuglsang, José Rujano and Ruben Plaza loose 4'43 today.

Word from the DS
Again, no changes in the GC. We will try to make it a tough race tomorrow, so all the sprinters get dropped in the climbs.

GL for next stage!
btw: In the word form the DS, there stays:
the printers get dropped in the climbs.
I think you mean sprinters
Guess who's back? Smile
Lets see how many friens are still around...

The 5th stage is the queen's stage of this edition of the Tirreno. The 192 kilometre long route from Tivoli to Torricella Sicura features 4 climbs, 2 of them around 9 and 11km long with an average gradient of about 5%. Unfortunately, the last 39 kilometres are downhill, only the last kilometre is a bit uphill again.
img14.imageshack.us/img14/1715/1etappe5.jpg

We show our tactic to regain the blue jersey already in the beginning of the stage. We set a high pace up the first climbs, were Thomas Dekker takes the most KOTM-points. It isn't enough to break the peloton into parts, but we know for sure that all the sprinters are struggling.
img403.imageshack.us/img403/2458/2kotm1n.jpg

Peter Sagan takes 3 bonus seconds in the first Intermediate sprint, followed by Wilco Kelderman.
img844.imageshack.us/img844/9176/3is1.jpg

Marc de Maar and Wout Poels work their asses off in the 3rd climb of the day, the Fagge (9km at 4.7%). As a result, the sprinters (Farrar, Goss, Cavendish) get dropped! But a few kilometres before the summit, Dekker gets a puncture and he has to fight back. Because of that, Igor Antón takjes the KOTM-points, followed by Wilco Kelderman.
img10.imageshack.us/img10/7059/477km.jpg

After the ascend, Kelderman takes the 3 bonus seconds in the 2nd IS-sprint, this time Sagan gets 2nd. Dekker has managed to get back in the first peloton.
img259.imageshack.us/img259/1190/5is2.jpg

The last climb of the day has started (Monti della Laga, 11.1km at 5.2%) and again we set a high pace. Then 6 kilometres before the summit, and 45 km before the finish, Thomas Dekker attacks!
img850.imageshack.us/img850/3812/645km.jpg

And we get what we want! GC-leader Ballan is struggling and has to let the first group go. 3km before the summit, he is already over a minute behind Dekker.
img248.imageshack.us/img248/262/741km.jpg

Dekker reaches the summit as the first one, and secures himself of the KOTM-jersey. But because the riders from Androni and Movistar kept a high pce in the ascend, he leads only by 20 seconds. Becuase of that, he decides to wait for the 18 man chasing group. Ballan reaches the summit 2'24 behind.
img844.imageshack.us/img844/188/8kotm4.jpg

But in the descend, the 2 groups merge. Strangely, this was 14 km after the summit, amazing.... Angry.
img577.imageshack.us/img577/9251/918km.jpg

Back on the flat, and we see an attack by Saxo's Richie Porte. He gets followed by Leandro Bertagnolli (Lampre) and Wilco Kelderman.
img839.imageshack.us/img839/3599/105km.jpg

Only Bertagnolli and Kelderman can stay in front of the chasing group. And where Kelderman's powers are fading with just one km to go, it seems that those from Bertagnolli are unlimited. But the peloton is closing in.
img842.imageshack.us/img842/3963/111kmb.jpg

Kelderman drops to 12th place. And Peter Sagan can't fight for the win in this sprint, again surprisingly Angry. So it looks like Bertagnolli is going to win. But he gets passed by Movistar's Rubén Plaza, who takes his 2nd win of the year (GC in San Luis).
img69.imageshack.us/img69/1674/12finish.jpg

And Ballan finishes in the back of the leading group, but as no surprise, the Italia organisation decides to give their Italian leader the same time as the winner of the stage.....

Word from the DS
We did everything right this stage, except taking over the blue jersey.... With 2 stages remaining, it will be difficult to regain the leaders jersey, but we'll keep trying.

Nice and unforeseeable career. Do you believe that Sagan will be able to last until the end in the first positions?

A lot of luck with the following stage. I follow you!

PD-> certainly... your english is very good Grin hehe.
