Katusha
Katusha was one of the most successful teams during the transfer season, picking up Dekker, Augustyn, Haedo, Brajkovic, and a few other good riders. They also return Pozzato, possibly the most talented rider in cycling. They have strong sprinters, climbers, hilly riders, and time trialist but lack a lot of help for Pozzato on the cobbles. Expect a finish anywhere from 1st to 5th.
Silence Lotto
Silence Lotto still has Cadel Evans, but Evans is no longer an elite climber, which leaves a gap in the team. The team has no strong climbers, leaving the team out of the hunt for a lot of points. However, they have more than enough northern classic riders. They have 3 Belgian sprinters in, Steegmans, Weylandt, and Roelandts. Gilbert will win some hilly and cobble races helping this team avoid any chance at relegation. They should finish anywhere between 12th and 7th.
Team Columbia
Kolobnev will be a favorite in all the hilly races he participates in and now he has Frank Schleck to help him out. The team loses there top sprinter, but they still have Greipel, Breschel, and Brown to win a lot of sprints. They don't have any pure climbers but they will be able to win stage races with Schleck. They also have a strong northern classics team with Burghardt and Breschel. Expect them to finish between 5th and 10th.
Team Saxobank
Saxobank is another favorite for the top spot in the pro tour. With the World TT Champion, Cancellara, Tour de France winner Andy Schleck, and a top sprinter in Haussler, this has to be one of the deepest teams. The addition of Leipheimer will add much needed support for Schleck and the addition of Haussler adds another sprinter and a great cobblestones rider to go along with Nuyen, Flecha, and Cancellara. Expect this team to finish in the top 3.
Vacansoleil
The recently promoted team brings a strong squad to the Pro Tour. They bring Van Summeren and Leezer as well as retaining there key riders from last year. They will pick up points in the Pro Tour and most likely avoid relegation. This team will win Northern Classics but besides Iglinsky, they lack good climbers. They will not finish in the top 10 but they could still pick up a lot of wins.

great career, but how did you manage to escape bankruptcy for so long ... I'm playing and still bankrupt at the beginning of 2012 ... end of period balance be bad and they offer me three bad teams ... in 2011 I won the Tour de france and giro with Contador and meet the goals for the season ... and yet bankrupt ... can you help me somehow ... I would appreciate you very much .. |

Stage 1
Today is the prologue of the 2012 Paris-Nice. My form is very low so it will be impossible for me to win the race. I'm here to loosen up my legs and get ready for the long season. Today's stage is only 9km and completely flat, but the constant rain will make it very slippery and dangerous. I didn't expect to do well with all the talented time trialers here but 32nd was still pretty disappointing.
Zabriskie had a chance to win the stage for us but he missed out by 8 seconds, finishing in 9th place.
José Iván Gutiérrez, who will be working for Valverde this week, was able to beat his team leader and finish in 5th place, with the same time of Zaugg, only 7 seconds back from the winner.
Fothen of Katusha was one of the favorites and did not disappoint, finishing in 3rd, only 4 seconds back.
Thomas Lövkvist was riding for a new, smaller, team but is still favored in the stage, and possibly, the race. The started off strong, finishing 2nd only 2 seconds back.
The strongest time trialer of the stage, was the German TT champion, Tony Martin, who will put on the leaders jersey after setting a great time. He will be a favorite in a lot of time trials this year.
