Stage 3 – San Jose – Livermore – 185.3km

THE RACE

MOUNTAIN - Bowden/Team Type 1

SPRINT - Hagman/Jelly Belly Cycling

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-100KM.jpg

Tvetcov/Team Exergy was part of a three man break but decided the others were not doing enough help so he has gone up the road alone where he has opened up a lead of 1m 22s on them and a further 4m 3s back to the pack

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-3-PIC3_zps7f5a2fd1.jpg

MOUNTAIN - Tvetcov/Team Exergy

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-90KM.jpg

Hagman/Jelly Belly Cycling and our own Alex Bowden/Team Type 1 are still chasing at over four minutes and forty seconds back

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-3-PIC5_zps3e37d681.jpg

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-80KM.jpg

With his two chasers now back in the peleton Tvetcov/Team Exergy now is alone in front with a lead of six minutes and three seconds

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-3-PIC6_zpsed10fdd8.jpg

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-70KM.jpg

He is still setting himself a good pace as his lead is more or less the same

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-3-PIC7_zps3fa47370.jpg

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-60KM.jpg

UnitedHealthcare have sent a couple of their riders to the front to try and reduce the gap

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-3-PIC8_zps5f419c57.jpg

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-50KM.jpg

The Yellow jersey of Gallopin/Radioshack Nissan is never too far from the front

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-3-PIC9_zpscfa3743e.jpg

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-40KM.jpg

Every team is now beginning to gather at the front of the peleton as we come to the business end of the stage

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-3-PIC10_zpsb9b5d1e9.jpg

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-30KM.jpg

As he begins to tire he is given the news from the race referee that his lead is now below the two minute mark

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-3-PIC11_zps690ed5c3.jpg

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-20KM.jpg

Once again its UnitedHealthcare who are controlling the front of the peleton, they must have there sights set on the stage victory today

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-3-PIC12_zps310989d1.jpg

MOUNTAIN - Tvetcov/Team Exergy

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-10KM.jpg

The effort has finally taken its toll on him as his legs have nothing left as the attacks behind have started to close the gap on him very rapidly

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-3-PIC14_zps940716c1.jpg

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-5KM.jpg

The catch was made just inside the five kilometre mark and as Team Type 1 put the pressure down a split appeared in the main bunch

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/TOGO-1KM.jpg

And the mass sprint for the line has started, who will be successful today

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/037-AMGEN%20TOUR%20OF%20CALIFORNIA/037-3-PIC15_zps702e39f4.jpg

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/STORY%20SYMBOLS/checkeredflag1.gif

Its Philip Deignan of UnitedHealthcare who takes it just in front of our very own Kiel Reijnen

Really Happy with the way the guys went about there business today, being non-existent until when it mattered and then seeing Kiel battle it out for the win at the end.
And he is noe second on the GC, so i am very happy today

Three riders in top 10 in California is very good results, and it has to be said - you weren't far away from winning.

Nice day for the team. So close with Reijen making second place in both stage and GC.

sutty68
krisa - Yeah, that shocked me too Wink

PCM rulezz - True, they don't come along too often do they Wink

wroblitz - A few more metres and we would have had that win Wink

alex344 - Thanks Mate Wink

After lots of tight marking at the beginning of the stage where no team would give an inch, they finally allowed four riders to have some freedom at the front of the race, Williams/Competitive Cyclist, Tvetcov/Team Exergy, Mannion/Bontrager Livestrong and Bookwalter/BMC Racing where those riders and they soon opened up an advantage of 4m 9s

Today was a day of pure hell for the guys, they suffered all the way through it and then the last ten kilometres were pure madness as the big teams laid down a really fast pace which resulted in Kiel losing his place in the top ten, but we still have Vegard and George looking good though
